Only a short drive from the A1, quiet rural setting and ample parking - a winning combination if things are done right. In this case its OK but not really worth a special trip to visit. We arrived about 19:30 on a Thursday evening. First impression is of tired decor and a locals pub - maybe half a dozen people in the large lounge area. Food was limited to a carvery which was due to close at 20:00. Surprisingly the veg was still relatively undamaged and the meat options did look edible - apart from the skin on the dishes that included a sauce. After saying that the taste was good and the price an excellent 4-95 - approaching half price compared with other pubs in the area. A beer drinker would be disappointed by the range of ales - John Smiths being the only viable option. Finally, I'm told its a haven for pensioners early evening. Recommended if you want a quiet pint and cheap carvery! Afterwalking - 31 Mar 2012 09:29 |
