user reviews of the Prince's Head, Richmond

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Nice pub, bit pricey but reasonable for the area. Excellent pint of ESB
Aztecgoat - 9 Jan 2016 21:23
Went to The Prince's Head two days ago on the recommendation of this site. It was lunchtime and there was group standing at the bar making the rafters ring with their very loud talk. Unlike the terrible old plonkers of the Angel and Crown, they were nevertheless an annoyance to others in the bar. It wasn't until they left that I heard the usual pop noise coming from a speaker just inside one of the entrances. It wasn't loud but totally unnecessary as nobody was listening to it.
The same might be said for the TV screen that nobody was watching.
The interior of the pub is very nice with a proper pub feel to it and the ESB I had was excellent. Take away the utterly pointless and irritating speaker and I might go there again.

A mercifully sympathetic refurbishment has done only a little to dampen this pub’s charm. We could have done without the raised tables to the left as you walk in, and there’s too much emphasis on the ‘gastro’ side of things for my liking. Still, this is very much a drinker’s haunt; it’s the dark wood, low ceilings, real fires and the sense of it being a REAL pub that does it. If they could just sort out their music policy...
TheKindnessOfTrees - 14 Oct 2014 22:23
Visited here on a warm April Friday lunchtime after walking from Putney.
Pub looks out over Richmond Green, although when you're inside it could be anywhere. The Prince's Head ( no apostrophe on the name outside the pub !) has remained a typical London pub and has not been subjected to "modernisation", so all power to its elbow. It's a bit dingy inside but hey. isn't that what London pubs are supposed to be.
Beer was Fullers so we had ESB, London Pride, and Chiswick on offer, plus some vile golden summer ale from some other brewery whose name I did not catch. I stuck with the ESB which was very good. No doubt the summer ale tasted of Lockets like they always do.
Food was fine - I had Southern Fried Chicken burger - although the french fries ( not chips) came in one of those little pretend deep fat fryer baskets with a metal handle. Why they couldn't tip them out I do not know, but that's modern dining for you.
All in all the Prince's Head was a good pub and I'd have no hesitation in visiting it again.

Nice little pub in a good location at the corner of the Green. Inside, there are number of little corners and there is more seating than there initially appears on entering. Being a Fullers pub, the beer range is a little limited. 4 ales were on - ESB, Pride, Black Cab & Chiswick. The Black Cab wasn't quite as good as I remembered it when I last tried it 2 years ago. But it was good enough for a few pints. As part of a group, we ate here as well. The menu is limited and the food is nothing special. I think this pub has more potential. But it doesn't need to try any harder, as its location will always help it to draw a large enough crowd.
blue_scrumpy - 29 Nov 2013 21:40
Lovely pub. Popped in here again the other sunny afternoon. This pub is always busy - the sign of a good inn! If you are partial to the odd glass of white wine in these summer months, may I recommend their 'wonderful white'...
"Riebeek Cellars" chenin blanc, from South Africa. (£5 for a large glass....but it IS worth it.) DO try it, it is extraordinarily good. Well done landlord choosing "Riebeek Cellars", top notch. :o) TJ
TeeJay - 11 Jul 2013 11:46
I must agree with 'Jonny', probably the best pub in Richmond! And that's quite an accolade, as there are SO many blooming nice pubs in the Richmond/Twickytown area! Well done 'PH' staff, making this such a good establishment. :o)
Lovely traditional bar (L-shaped), efficient staff, good ales and good food, and what a view out the front, over-looking Richmond Green..! Get a seat by the window and envisage a village green cricket match; or if its cold out, checkout an armchair near the log fire! And not only that....they show live sport on 2 x tv screens for the sports fanatics. How do they 'tick' all these boxes...?!! I love the Princes Head :o) 9/10
TeeJay - 19 Mar 2013 20:28
There are plenty of lovely pubs in Richmond, but The Princes Head is the best bar none. Great selection of ales with a seasonal rotation, fantastic food (especially pies) and the staff are pleasant and professional - always good for a chat, and you won't get a dodgy pint here. Never seen any trouble in this place, and they also allow dogs and children in. Highly enjoyable atmosphere and reasonable prices too, considering it is Richmond. The best beer garden in London, it's Richmond green! I've nothing bad to say about the PH, and I always feel welcome whenever I visit. Mine's a Pride!
JonnyRichmond - 27 Dec 2012 19:54
Busy pub located on Richmond green, one large open plan drinking area and a couple of areas for diners, serves Fullers beer which is well kept and not too pricey for Richmond (Chiswick at 3.35 a pint)

Has a couple of TV's and they were showing the cricket on Saturday.
beershot - 23 Jul 2012 09:29
Went in here yesterday afternoon after playing at the "Rugby Rocks" festival over at Old Deer Park. Staff were really friendly, service was prompt and the food was good. Portions were huge, which is something I rarely say as I am a fat git! If it's no nonsense pub grub you want I recommend this place.
joffle - 28 May 2012 12:45
great pub (nivce location, quality staff etc) - but the prices keep rising. Last week another 10p was added to the ales (did I miss a budget?)...in 18 months a pint of Pride has gone up by 50p (>15%)
boozelover - 12 Dec 2011 14:15
We need more pubs with that kind of policy for kids!
slacker - 2 Sep 2011 11:13
I've been in the Princes Head a few times and really liked it - decent Fullers beer, which can be taken out onto the Green. However, popped in last week and initially ordered a lemonade to quench the thirst before moving onto the beers. Was shocked to be charged 2.20 for a (I'll be generous) 400ml glass, half of which was ice. Such extortionate prices quickly lost them any further custom from us that day.
Oktup - 2 Jul 2011 18:51
Awesome pub, staff and regulars are almost too friendly. Beer is kept well, staff are wonderful, best place in richmond by far. I'd move in if they didn't shoo me off

soooB - 24 Jun 2011 23:23
Went in with family and two teenagers at 13:00, on the 28th Dec. Was informed that the kids would have to sit in the beer garden, along with the smokers. Told the barstaff that my kids did not smoke, were housetrained, and wanted only lemonade. Told to leave pub. Asked for duty manager: not available. Don't know if this was Fullers corporate policy that kids should be banished to outside in beer garden, but will not be going back to the 'Head. We walked around the corner to the Brittannia and were made to feel very welcome indeed, INSIDE the bar, kids happy with lemonade and crisps.
LobsterFish - 6 Jan 2011 16:50
Had a pint of Chiswick and ate their Shepherds Pie. Both were tasty and in good nick. Service was quick and friendly and prices reasonable for area. Worth a visit for sure.
eastkent - 5 Jan 2011 22:37
Excellent town centre pub by the green. My Fullers beers were top notch. Mrs R drank Mulled Wine and loved that too.
Paul_Rochdale - 2 Jan 2011 20:17
Great pub. Friendly staff and the food is excellent.
hampshirewalker - 14 Nov 2010 10:56
Situated on a prominent corner position on the edge of Richmond Green, the Princes Head is a Fullers managed pub that is much larger than it looks from the outside.

Etched glass in the entrance doors reveal that this was once a multi-roomed pub. Now it's a single bar pub that has been tastefully extended at the back to create several linked food orientated areas. Pleasingly though, it still remains, first and foremost, a pub, with a small band of regulars often occupying the narrowish bar area at the front overlooking the green. Despite some inevitable refurbishment over the years, lowish ceilings and wood panelling mean that it has retained a reasonably traditional feel, although it can feel a bit dark and grey at times.

The pub really comes into its own in the summer months when Richmond Green acts as an unofficial beer garden. There's few better ways to spend a lazy sunny summer evening than sitting on the green with a pint of Pride and a takeaway from the chippy in nearby King Street, watching the pub's own cricket team do battle with a rival pub.

The pub has not been in the Good Beer Guide for ages now, but the London Pride and Chiswick are usually in reasonable nick.

I think if I had one criticism of the pub, it's of the rather transient nature of most of the staff - plus those awful corporate black shirts that they have to wear.

This is still one of Richmond's better pubs.
JohnBonser - 8 Jun 2010 12:28
Went in there for the Chelsea/Man C game and moreso for the 6 Nations Eng/Ire game seeing as the latter were 250-300 a ticket at Twickers!! Usual Fullers range and served in glass not plastic containers as in Crickerters next door - rammed and friendly and plent of people eating too - reckon it would be great with the Green in the summer - Fullers was top-notch (as it always generally is in London).
kernott1 - 1 Mar 2010 19:16
This is a Fullers pub, so expect the usual ales to be available. The prices are a bit more wallet friendly than the nearby Sun Inn, with Chiswick at 2.75 a pint. This is OK as a pub, but theres a bit too much battleship gray on the inside for my liking. Theres a couple of large TV monitors on the walls tuned to Sky Sports, but muted so that we could enjoy the banal pop music being played. Furnishings are normal tables and chairs, with tall stools at the bar. Overall, it seems to be a pretty ordinary pub by any standards with nothing special about it, except perhaps the lovely setting right by Richmond Green. But my pint of Chiswick was pretty good, and I quite enjoyed my tuna sarny with a salad garnish and a few crisps (for 4.95). I wouldnt rush back, but there are many, many pubs that are not as good about. I suppose on a nice day it would be quite pleasant enjoying a good pint sitting outside looking out over the Green.
RexRattus - 2 Dec 2009 17:44
One of my favourite pubs. Lots of character and hidden nooks and crannies, so a good place to while away an hour or two with a book. But due to its' central location, also a good place to meet with friends, or just sit outside on the green and watch the world go by.
Friendly staff, good range of beers. The only small minus point is that it can get a bit cold sometimes (but would rather that than an overheated, stuffy boozer!).
whiskygalore - 25 Nov 2009 22:33
A really excellent Fuller's pub opposite the green. Fine grub and the usual Fuller's range plus seasonals are in superb form. It can get very busy, especially during the summer but definitely worth a visit.
JDchaser - 29 Oct 2009 12:19
Usual Fullers ales on offer yesterday - Chiswick, Pride and ESB with Discovery off but the pump clip still showing. Efficient and friendly service and the food was filling and good value.
cheshirecat - 21 Oct 2009 09:58
A pleasant enough pub serving real ale and reasonable value food. Not the most comfortable of seating but OK. all round we would describe the Princess Head as distinctly average on all counts.
MagicMoments - 1 Oct 2009 10:28
Greta location on the green...they give you plastic glasses to take out if you wish. Found the bar staff to be efficient yesterday...it was incredibly busy and I only had to wait a couple of minutes. Good selection of Fullers beers ESB Pride Chiswick Discovery and Honeydew
Great on a sunny evening
pubmanstu - 3 May 2009 11:51
Oh my Gosh loved this pub, went there today around 3pm and wandered inside to fine little hidden gems of seating private and open. Sat in a little corner with my boyfriend to the Right of the ladies toilet with a very comfy chairs.
Great menu lots of selection, light bites, mains, dessert and sides etc. I ordered the baked potato with tuna filling and boyfriend got hot nachos with cajun chicken and chorizo skewers. The guy who served us the food was lovely friendly and hospitable, the food was amazing I couldnt finish it you get sooo much it was so filling and the salad dressing was great along with the coleslaw etc. I would love to come back to this pub.
Eleanor1981 - 3 Apr 2009 01:13
Please, please get rid of the Spanish barmaid. She has no redeeming qualities whatsover. She swears like a trooper, is unfriendly, never smiles and is generally unhelpful. I have heard her being very rude to people as well.
chimay - 31 Mar 2009 20:01
a lovely pub in a great location only spoilt by the dreadful staff and poorly serviced loos
chimay - 23 Jan 2009 20:02
Nice enough Fullers pub well-located on the corner of The Green. The barman was not too friendly. In fact he was verging on rude. Maybe it's catching. When ordering a bottle of cider, he automatically filled a pint glass with ice. I hate this trend and asked for the ice to be removed. After a rather unpleasant glare, he threw the ice back into a bucket and slammed the glass down on the bar. On a subsequent visit, I enquired which of the two bitters I had just bought was which. He replied that 'the clue is on the glass - the London Pride is in the London Pride glass and the ESB is in the ESB glass'. This may have been easy for him to see, but not for me when the glasses were turned the other way. I saw no need for this kind of bad attitude. Apart from this service, which I found more amusing than anything, this pub has a good atmosphere with plenty of tables in a nice interior.
blue_scrumpy - 21 Jan 2009 22:20
With soulless gastropubs and their stratospheric prices sprouting like mould everywhere , it is so refreshing to find an unprentenious traditional boozer in great location with decent ale at proper prices. Don't change a thing Fullers!!!! you've buggered up enough pubs with unsympathetic refurbishments, leave this one alone.
One of the highlights of being on the Green is the free show. Many "worthies" live in the area and such people detest chavs. Watch the hard men in suits moving in on any young chavs in cars who the try and park around the green. What they quietly say to them obviously works as they always seem to move on....
threeravensmoor - 16 Jan 2009 00:12
Great little boozer, especially in the summer when you can take your beer out onto the green. A nice pint of Pride and a great pint of winter warmer as well.
The_D_Man - 9 Jan 2009 21:48
The beer is always wlll kept - best pint of Pride in the area. The staff are uniformly good, including the South African girl - be serious, do you think the guvnor would put up with that sort of attitude for a minute? What happened to the dog that used to catch ice cubes?
seeyoujimmy - 17 Dec 2008 15:16
I have been visiting this pub for about 2 years and have always had a wonderful time. The beer is always good, the food also just as good and the barstaff are great even the South African girl is always friendly to me. One of our locals now.
cheekygirl15 - 7 Dec 2008 20:00
Great pub, good service well kept ale and lager, food good and over-looking the green so can take beers out. All in all a good pub 8/10 and deserved. Oh and yeah that barmaid is miserable!!! (see below)
thefruitbat - 23 Nov 2008 16:33
Good traditional local, unspoilt by recent minor refurbishment. Picturesque setting overlooking Richmond Green. At least if you are a smoker you have something attractive to look at while you freeze. Well kept Fullers beers and good, surprisingly imaginative food.
Only negative is the conspicuously unfriendly South African barmaid who appears to be engaged in some sort of challenge to serve you without speaking unless absolutely unavoidable. Why they continue to employ her I cannot imagine. Does she have in her possession compromising photographs of the main shareholder of Fullers?
Beertrix - 7 Nov 2008 10:17
For the last 3 years I have been enjoying the food at this pub, long may it continue. Lovely buzzy atmosphere on a Sunday afternoon, the perfect place for a break in between shopping.
bestbarmaid - 4 Sep 2008 17:35
Nestled on Richmond Green, the Princes Head is an oasis in a sea of trendy pubs. It really is an old fashioned boozer, benefiting from seller Fullers quality ales and the atmosphere is very relaxed. The food is not too bad either. Possibly the best pub in Richmond by a country mile.
LennyBanter - 17 Aug 2008 19:58
Better run than the cricketers with better beer and much better food. Nice feel inside especially round the back with the nooks and crannies. Food very adequate at lunch too - proper pub food but without the Gastro prices. One of the better in Richmond
CharlesS - 5 Aug 2008 10:12
Never has a pub benefitted more from the smoking ban. With it's low ceilings this place used to have it's own personal fog bank making everything oredered beer, wine, food taste of cigarettes. Since the ban the smoke has gone and the taste has returned.

Nice bar staff, good beers and good location. Doesn't quite cater for the green like the Cricketers but is still a decent pub
theoneandonlyjoe - 25 Jul 2008 13:19
Bigger than you think it's going to be, with a series of small nooks and crannies 'out the back' .

Seems to be caught between two stools somewhat. While it is situated on the green and tries to have a village pub feel, it is also just behind the High Street and tries to cater for the business drinker. Ends up feeling slightly barren and soulless.

Generally it's OK, but I left feeling slightly short-changed, in more ways than one.
parkhillian - 11 Jul 2008 11:01
Really nice pub with very good bar food and a good selection of well kept beers. I like the way this place has a different feel to the different seating areas and now they have a few tables outside too. Definitely worth a visit.
Oolybel - 28 Apr 2008 16:25
A proper pub that still lives on. Lunchtime food is great, pub food done well proves not everything has to be Gastro. Good atmosphere but I must admit the doesn't draw me in that much in the evening but most prob more my loss than theirs. All together a top place
areeves - 10 Apr 2008 11:37
Best pub in Richmond. I used to drink here when I was a student 1995 - 1998. Went back for a return visit last year and it was still great.
4eyedspy - 15 Jan 2008 11:24
Very decent boozer. Friendly bar staff, relaxed after work atmosphere (on a Thursday evening, anyway). Guinness very good, and the steak and ale pie and bangers and mash get a resounding thumbs up. Pub food rarely this good.
luckyken - 7 Oct 2007 18:00
Best pub food in Richmond, and friendly staff too
twickenhammike - 8 Aug 2007 14:54
Probably my favorite town center pub for many reasons, e.g. beer (good range of Fullers), location, food, live sport and good company.
Matthew_of_Ham - 31 Jul 2007 14:48
Good proper pub, solid Landlord, tasty wife.
anonymous - 18 Jul 2007 22:31
Great pub, friendly staff, good drinks and excellent food. Sometimes a little smokey at the front but OK at the back. Definately the best pub on the green!
martybeer - 29 Jan 2007 10:39
Well, well.. the 'Princes Head' gets a mention this week in the The Times 'Gastro Pubs 2007'...!! Two course lunch for 10.00 (Mon,Tues,Wed). If it weren't for the cig/smoke I'd visit more often, my last visit (last week) you had to sit outside the smoke was that bad inside. Apart from that, a stalwart pub. (Roll on July'07 tho')... TJ
TeeJay - 23 Jan 2007 22:23
Decent enough. OK ale selection, good pub grub, plasma TV's for the sport, some comfy sofas etc etc. On the down side it gets pretty smoky and it's a bit rugger-buggery. My residing memory of this place though was when I quietly asked a barman if he could get some more toilet paper for the blokes toilet (clean, full length locking door) as it had run out in there. He then proceded to ask a really fit, young barmaid rather loudly to go and get some. She then gave me a huge industrial sized roll with a look on her face that seemed to say 'if I didn't fancy you in the first place, the fact that I know you're going for a dump means that I certainly don't now!'
chopperbomb - 10 Oct 2006 00:30
A 'useful' pub to know! Basic, walk-around bar at front; quiter, secluded & comfy seating at back. Shows most of the main sporting events on a couple of small screens around the pub. Tends to be used by the 'maturer' drinker, apart from when the footy's on the telly! By far the best feature this pub has to offer, are their table-benches outside the front, over-looking the magnificent Green, where in summer you can sip your favourite drink & watch a local cricket match, or just soak in the almost 'european' feel as people meet, mingle & revell on the Green! (TeeJay)
TeeJay - 18 Jul 2006 12:29
Nice old pub down a narrow alley off the main road leading from Richmond station towards the River. Much more spacious than appears from the front with a maze of cozy corners around the back of the bar. Good pint of Chiswick, relatively cheap for the area at 2.30.
Rich66 - 3 Jul 2006 22:17
A good evening session last night for the "Solstice Sunset". The Discovery was on excellent form, and the pub was buzzing with lively friendly staff and drinkers. This is one of Fuller's better pubs and remains a worthy part of any Richmond crawl.

Rating with post: 9/10.
lad_newton - 22 Jun 2006 15:44
very nice pub on the green with a good view of cricket when they play, "Fuller's pride" was very nice @2.60 a pint well worth a visit or two
anonymous - 22 Jun 2006 13:00
Thats the fella - nice bloke actually - drinks in there most days . Agreed - the girl he drinks with is a pain - saw her fall over once and split her head open . Now for the pub itself . Probably the better of the pubs on the Green - lovely outside on a sunny evening . Mainly a locals pub - not a bad thing - keeps the chavs from actually coming in .Reasonable food and drink and as mentioned before Soccer AM is always to be encouraged !!
anonymous - 11 May 2006 17:06
Think he's called Barry....drinks with a girl who can't hold her drink .
anonymous - 8 May 2006 16:03
Yes, I know who you mean, he drinks in The Old Ship round the corner as well !
JohnBonser - 8 May 2006 13:45
There's a bloke who looks scarilly like Dr Shipman who drinks in here !!!!
anonymous - 2 May 2006 17:18
Strange one this ! Nice old fashioned pub , lovely location , but there's something about the locals that reminds you of a soup kitchen !! Shame really....
anonymous - 2 May 2006 08:21
Good location, very much a "local boozer". the food is ok. It shows Soccer AM on saturday mornings which is a right touch.
pubjudge - 18 Jan 2006 12:04
One of the better pubs around The Green. It's more of a local than the others so a) it feels grubbier and b) there is more of an atmosphere. Suits me.
Matthew_of_Ham - 15 Dec 2005 19:57
Appears to be a bit more of a boozers pub, with a mixture of ages....Enjoyed the ESB...a bit more downmarket than some Richmond pubs-but thats ok with me.
EdgarBriggsMI5 - 21 Sep 2005 20:04
nice pub, food is over priced but good. For everyone who keeps commenting about the plastic glasses for the green, that isn't anything to do with the pub itself (this goes for all the richmond pubs with take-away licences), it's mainly health and safety from the council so kids and dogs and things don't cut themselves on the broken glasses. Congrat's to snowdog for getting a glass one, you didn't tell them you were going outside then!

Nice pub, it's just a shame the green has so many chavs hanging about all night trying to make trouble.
sesh - 13 Aug 2005 23:17
Totally agree with the last comment. The pub couldn't be in a better position however recently it seems to have attracted a very shabby bunch of drunk locals/new age travellers who the bar staff seem oblivious to.
A real shame, and will eventually cause many people to desert this once fine pub .
anonymous - 26 Jul 2005 14:47
Went here for a bite to eat and was very unimpressed. Food was below average and we were put off by a very, very pissed (paralytic) old bloke who attempted to join my friend & I and when we sent him away, then proceeded to bang his glass repeatedly on the table behind us whilst shouting out 'f*ck' and some other incomprihensible, offensive ramblings very loudly at regular intervals. The bar staff appeared to be ignoring him and my friend eventually had to ask them to do something about it.

Bar staff that can't deal with drunkards who will clearly put off other punters shouldn't be there. This pub is in a great location but that episode has certainly put two of us off going back.
Cleversaz - 25 Jul 2005 13:32
Popped in last night, 14 July, for a couple of quick beers. Had on the new Fullers brew, Discovery, very tastie. There was a cricket match being played on the green, was able to enjoy the beer in glass, not plastic whilst sitting on the grass watching the game. Wife didn't like the interior of the pub, I thought it was alright. I think this pub is better than it's neighbour 'The Cricketers'.
snowdog2112 - 15 Jul 2005 19:27
Great pub for outdoor drinking in Summer. Probably the biggest unofficial pub garden - Richmond Green - in the borough. Shame about the plastic glasses for outside drinking though, it's a Local Council requirement. Even during the recent hot weather, the London Pride has been in first rate condition.Staff and service is much improved from several years ago. Well done !
JohnBonser - 27 Jun 2005 16:18
Used to work here in the 90s. Loved it then and, after re-visiting yesterday can still recommend it. Very nice pub in a lovely setting.
toffee_exile - 2 May 2005 08:30
This pub has turned around for me. Used to hate it but a great location and refurb and staff have improved it alot. Nice for a Saturday afternoon on the Green.
sazz - 12 Apr 2005 10:40
Spacious, traditional pub overlooking the Green offering well priced London Pride. Relaxed atmosphere. Pleasantly free of smoke, even near the bar area.
foxski - 28 Mar 2005 16:54
Excellent pub, in good location. Food is excellent, and service was exceedingly friendly - The Old Ship take note..
TheGP - 20 Dec 2004 18:23
I visited this pub (for the first time ever) post refurbishment and found much to like. "Modern traditional" sums it up nicely; wooden floors, leather chairs, faux open fires, old photos and prints on the wals. Good pint of ESB. Atmosphere (air quality) felt good, though I was an early lunchtime drinker and no-one aws yet smoking - kudos for the separate smoking area; though I don't see why they get the best seats next to the bar. Menu looks nice.
anonymous - 8 Nov 2004 15:08
This is the end for smokers in this pub. The non-smoking section is all off the back area (which is just over half of pub), which in my mind is a crazy decision. Aren't the barstaff the people that should be protected? Maybe I'm just annoyed that my regular table is out of bounds if I want to light up. That aside, it's a tasteful refurb and they still do one of the better pints of Pride in the area.
Mr Tall - 8 Nov 2004 00:00
Pub is now re - open ( 2 November ).
Hasn't really been spoilt at all. It has been opened up a bit at the back in the food area, but the basic structure and layout of the pub has not been changed. The barman described it to me as a "modern traditional pub" now. Wood pannelling and existing bar retained, also fireplace at the back. New floor added. Stools at the bar have been retained, much to the obvious appreciation of the locals as have the reasonably unobtrusive TV screens. There is a slightly lighter feel designed to appeal to a wider cross section of customers, but, in no way is this refurbishment the typical Fullers vandalism that we were all anticipating with dread ( remember what happened to the Turks Head in St Margarets )
I am still happy to recommend The Princes Head.
We wait to see what Youngs will do to the Old Ship, which is still closed.
John - 3 Nov 2004 09:45
further to my earlier comment about the pub closure, it is actually scheduled to re open as early as November 2nd. Apologies for the earlier misleading info
John Bonser - 19 Oct 2004 09:47
Note that the pub is due to close on 17 October 2004 for about a month for a refurbishment. Let's hope the character of the pub is not changed or spoilt in any way
John Bonser - 13 Oct 2004 15:53
Seems a decent pub, and quite traditional which is good. Always packed, which says a lot.

TheGP - 4 Oct 2004 16:38
This has THE best pub food in Richmond. Go in between 1 and 3.30 and you in for a treat.
yourhardkorehero - 21 Jul 2004 16:37
Probably the best pub in Richmond. More of a dyatime/early evening affiar mind although if you are in a big group it's okay for a late night. It's got a really nice atmosphere - great in winter especially.
thenationofjames - 13 May 2004 13:42
I used to work in this pub, so I declare my interest up front. But I have been drinking here for over 8 years, before working here. Its a great pub, its a grown ups pub. No kids (21s and over) allowed and thats as much for the kids as it is for the adults. Its a smallish back street pub that gets busy at weekends and in the summer. But you do have the Green to use as a front garden. Because its a grown ups pub, it does attract a regulars set but they are of all ages and professions. The beer is excellent and well kept, London Pride is always popular but the ESB is the best you can find for many miles around, while the Chiswick is a great session beer, and for the adventures there is always Golden Pride available in bottle. The food is great, remember Ive seen in the kitchens, and all home cooked and generous portions. On the down side it does get a bit smoky, the low ceilings dont help and over worked extractors, but these are planned to be improved over the coming months. It also has a great cricket club.

A nice pub, populated by human beings - not always true of pubs in Richmond. In the summer it's a great place to sit outside and watch the cricket

I am 38 and enjoy pints in this pub. I disagree with the last 2 comments. All agegroups seem welcome & drink quite happily side by side in the Princes Head. The minimum age entry is 18. If it was a freehouse rather than just a Fuller's pub I'd go in more often. For that reason only. 8/10.

This is an old man's pub, full of real ale enthuisiasts BUT it is my favourite pub in Richmond (there are quite a few to choose from). Its traditional and is ideal for a quiet four or five pints. If you want to see any totty though this aint the place.

Very friendly atmosphere and staff....Dog friendly too!
Great food and particulary good Sunday Roast after a bracing walk!
No loud intrusive music. Recommended.

The Prince is Dead! Or so I thought when the pub entered a reburbishment program a few years back. But no, they were merely addding an extension around the back. And thank God, beacuse this has been a Richmond staple for years. Great stuff.
Good for: watching the football scores come in on a Saturday afternoon

Great London Pride and cricket on the telly. Life could not get much better. Richmond is great and the Price's Head is God's own pub!!

Not a bad pub, for once I didnt mind getting ID'ed the other day, as it's allegedly over 21's now. Quite hard to actually get to the bar, what with all the real ale types giving dodgy looks to anyone under the age of 30.

The view of passing laydeez makes the outside tables quite pleasant

15 seconds stagger from the cricketer's. Lots of old regulars prop up the bar and exchane 'banter' with the staff. Food quite good, actually. Hardly Egon Ronay, but pretty much what you need when talent spotting from the tables outside.
God I love Richmond.

A rather good Fuller's pub. Good food and well-kept ales. Great to watch the cricket from. Full of hunky Ozzies, Kiwi's and Afrikaaners! Gr8!
