please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Once I'd gotten over the unusual entrance (more like a garden patio - but maybe there's a 'front door' on the other side?), and the fact that the inside is half 'club' (i.e. very open) and half 'pub' (trad dcor with knick-knacks), I was pleasantly surprised. Unlike so many other Basingstoke pubs, they did at least have a cask ale on (only spotted the one, Courage Best, but it was very pleasant). And the place was friendly and comfortable. So I'm sure I'll pop in again.

Popped in on the way over to Old Basing. For an estate pub I didn't think it was too bad. There's a nice sloped garden area outside, with pub itself situated at the bottom of the dip with the whole thing surrounded by a bright red wooden fence which looks like it came from a Lego set. The front bar was in a decent state of repair and quite light thanks to a whacky 70's-inspired window which seems to take up most of the nearside wall. Two beers on (Batemans and Courage). My Batemans was unremarkable but I've had a lot worse in 'nice' pubs. Basic food on offer if I recall. Clientele were gruff but unobtrusive. Never going to win awards but nonetheless a fair estate pub.

I went in there and thought i was at a pubwatch photo shoot. I think the owners only recieve photo updates to know who their regulars are.

Was in here on tuesday 24th for a darts match this pub has always had an up and down time of things but it has now been taken over by a new team and they do seem to be enjoying their job.Yes it is an "estate" pub but whole pub does not stop when you walk in the door!
And they now have a basin in the gents toilet so things are looking up!
keep up the good work

Agree with Alexh, how an estate pub should be. Just love the public bar.

The menu has now gone up in price and is not available all day now, as it was before. It's the standard 12 - 2 and 5 - 9 sort of times now. The meals have basacally gone up by a pound each, the Steak Breakfast which Nik Laws refers to used to be 3.95, that is now 4.95

This is what an estate pub should be like! Nice sensible decor ad atmosphere, warmly helped along by the Courage Best and guest ales on offer. Try it, it's a little out the way of Basingstoke Town Centre but lovely for a refreshing, relaxing pint.
