The Latchmere, Battersea

I've been to a lot of shows at Theatre503 upstairs. One of London's best small theatres, producing some great new work. Upstairs good.
But downstairs? It's gone dire. Two years ago, the chain's management decided to decree a menu from its corporate headquarters, rather than let the chef decide. Basically, the food is microwave reheat slop out of a tub (never ever order the 'risotto'), where once upon a time the chef was doing bloody fantastic things with good ingredients. It's a real shame and an example of how the idiots running things in London have led us into recession through sheer taking trade for granted. Also, it's run by an angry moron who seems to resent the theatre going punters who generally want to spend money on food and drink before and after the show! Don't worry, mate, I won't spend my money if you don't want it.
Don't let this put you off the theatre, though. There's some nice places to eat up the street and across the road.

The Wishing Well, Peckham

What's happened? Gone into meltdown last two months. Good luck getting an ale, and good luck without protective armour. Was nice before.

The Montpelier, Peckham

Wow! Has this place changed for the better. From the kind of place where you would hire a hit man, to the kind of place you pop in for a drink and end up spending a Sunday. Great and reasonably priced wine list, excellent looking menu (although haven't tried it yet) but better lagers than ales. Really friendly staff too.
