The Boot, Soulbury

Visited a couple of weeks ago after wanting to visit for some while as I drive past quite a bit.

Unfortunately so did Dom Jolly's mum, the most annoying woman in the world was sat at the bar and for the hour or so we were there she was constantly on the phone in a "HELLO, I'M IN THE PUB" conversation which followed the conversation she had with the bar staff about how important she was.

She didn't even stop talking to eat her meal, which she eat at the bar. And as much as I wanted to eat I just couldn't put up with it, add to that the fact that the menu was limited and we went on our way.

Had a pint of Spitfire which was passable and a second pint which neither I nor SWMBO can remember the name of but as there was a fair amount of yeast in the glass maybe less detail is more.

Won't be rushing back, though in its favour there were a few people eating who seemed happy enough. Staff were helpful and friendly so a 5 is a fair score I think.

The Golden Rule, Dagnall

Great drinkers pub....beer always excellent.

Don't expect fruit machines/pool table/TV etc.

Do expect.

Friendly landlord and customers.

Lots of great beers inc cherry and strawberry beers if your into that sort of thing.

Always has three or four cask beers and also cask cider and perry.

Couple of beer fests a year, which extend the beer range further.

No food (except Tyrells crisps, which are nice)

Limited parking, though I usually park across the road by the school without anu problems.

The White Horse, Eaton Bray

Visited this pub for the second time yesterday, had previously visited on a sunny summers day and sat in the rear garden drinking well kept Spitfire. Plenty of car parking, and a play area for the kids if you have any.

All good then?

Decided to visit again and eat in the restaurant.

And I would have to agree with previous comments that the food is distinctly average.

Thai fish cake starter was greasy and had a very strange texture.

Steak was OK as was my wifes Lamb shank. Stay away from the pepper sauce as this was awful, split, oily and lacking in any flavour.

Service was attentive but not intrusive.

Decor is a throwback to the 70's and you would be hard pressed to find less comfortable chairs.

We sat close to the kitchen and heard the unmistakeable "ding" of the microwave on far too many occassions.

As with our first visit the beer was well kept.
