Springfield Park Tavern, Bounds Green

Like others, I had mixed feelings about the refurb and was worried about it being run down a few months ago. The place did really need brightening up but in the back of my mind I kept fearing the dreaded word "Gastropub." Well I've popped in a few times now, think the place looks great, light and modern without losing the site of what it is, which is a great community pub with a good selection of well priced drinks that are well kept by the landlord, (unlike other boozers round this way that have gentrified themselves). Just goes to show you can give a place a lick of paint and a change of furniture without losing your character and identity. Mind you, as a previous reviewer said, the "Bar & Grill" sign outside and meals priced up to fifteen quid would suggest they are looking to attract customers from the Ranelagh and that poncey cafe bar down the road. I only have one thing to say - don't do it! Remember who you are and who your customers are and with this revamp you aren't going to go far wrong!

Happy days!

The Ranelagh, Bounds Green

This place is Mitchell and Butlers, make your own choice, but they are the Tesco of pubs if you ask me . I would rather have a pint in any number of boozers round here than give my hard earned cash to that cynical lot, especially as their beer has the familiar taste that suggests they don't look after their pipes too well. Or perhaps us folks in the suburbs should be grateful we have an M&B Gastropub on our door step rather than one of their Toby Carvery's, All Bar One's or Browns?

Henleys Bar, Wood Green

Re-opened as a swish new bar....won't be everyone's cup of tea, especially not old Henley's regulars, as they only serve one lager on tap (admitedly a very tasty one) and ales in bottles and it's very middle class but the staff are friendly, the music is good and it's an infinite improvement on what Henley's had become. Good luck to them I say.
