Dog and Gun, Keswick

Enjoyed a post Scafell Pike evening in the Dog and Gun. The Barman came over to point out a free table when he saw us scouring the place for a seat (a nice touch). Our dog was welcome too. Had the Goulash which was lush! Nice varied choice of ales was available. I really enjoyed it.

The Crown, Hawes

The middle of 3 hostelries in the very centre of Hawes and the best of them.

We got there after the advertised time for food on a busy Saturday afternoon but the Guvnor happily took our order, no problem, and continued to do so with other late orders.

This place has a nice selection of beers and lager but it is the service which is the clincher.

Polite, efficient staff well led by what I would call an 'old fashioned landlord' (no offence intended!).

There is also a hidden jewel to the rear with a lovely, secluded sun trap of a beer garden.

If you visit Hawes, give The Crown a try.
