The Alexandra Hotel, Derby

Visited here after close of play yesterday after watching the Derbyshire v Warwickshire. Wonderful place if you are a real ale fan and railway enthusiast - which often go together. Beer was excellent and railwayana and breweriana that adorn the walls is fascinating not to mention the Class 37 cab at the back of the pub. Well worth a visit if near the railway station.

Station Inn, Derby

Visited the Station Inn yesterday after close of play at the Derbyshire v Warwickshire cricket match. There are two handpumps but the Draught Bass is only available FROM THE JUG. There were large signs pointing this out which I didn't notice.

The Smithfield, Derby

Nice to see a once derelict pub reopen for business. Called yesterday for lunch during the first day of the Derbyshire v Warwickshire cricket match. I had a ploughman's lunch and my 3 friends chose the roast. This comprised many slices of meat with all the trimmings accompanied by a bowl of vegetables that would not fit in each plate. The price - £4.00 - yes - four pounds. I am concerned for the viability of the pub charging such a low price for the quantity of food. I don't know how they do it for the money. On the beer front, the Draught Bass was first class.
