The Foresters Arms, Graffham

Stayed last saturday night and had dinner. Food and beer/wine excellent. What a relief as the place was rather empty. Don't know why the locals were shy but we had a pleasant stay. Breakfast was enormous. Had our pooch with us in the room and we were made to feel very welcome.

Recommended especially if you require 'Dog friendly' accommodation.

The Black Rabbit, Offham

Visited this for the first time last Sunday (25th April 2010) and was impressed with the location and beer on offer. The place was mobbed due to the fine weather. Despite this we secured a table outside and decided to eat.

Roast beef for �9.00 and a Black bean chile for �6.95. Both dishes were very small and clearly this is the profit margin. Shame that greed spoils the experience. Staff under pressure but coped well. Even changed the cloudy Badger for me without a fuss.

Great location but don't expect manly portions (Had just walked over the Downs that weekend and was 'ank Marvin')

The Weir Hotel, Walton on Thames

Good bits: River location, well kept ales, blues on Sundays, good food, over 21's area with outside bar, some efficient bar staff and some very nice locals.

Bad bits: Not enough staff posted behind the bar when busy (and it gets very busy)-customers queued outside the door as a result, outside bar shut during busy and hot periods?, overpriced, cars hurtling past on the tow path unchallenged, oiks jumping in the river - again unchallenged and a general lack of managerial presence.

I have visited this establishment on and off over the years and believe me it's improved from the days when there were a constant stream of dull and incompetent 'Managers' but the owners must realise that money spent on extra staff and maintaining some control over the yob element will improve things drastically.
