Ex Licensee. Had pubs in Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Derby City Centre and 3 in Nottingham City Centre.
Enjoy real ale, but don't like the attitude of some of the CAMRA people. They are extreemeists.
Have visited every pub in the London area in the Good Beer Guide (and a few more too) over a period of about 10 years of visiting London, with my good drinking buddy, Richard.
Now semi-retired, I enjoy visiting derbyshire pubs in particular.

Stumbled across this gem whilst driving in the Peaks. What a llocation! Incredible views over the valley, great pint of Unicorn, lovely sandwich (bit pricey, I thought). Cozt pub, great beer garden. See that they do Folk Nights here - worth the drive from Mansfield
Highly recommended

The Nettle Inn, Milltown

I happened upon this pub on the way into Ashover. It looked perfectly charming from the outside - most inviting on an early spring day.
I had a pint of "Farmers" which I believe is a local brew? Ordered a ribeye steak sandwich at 7. Absolutely superb! Local meat from a local butcer, local baked bread, caramalised onions and Buxton cheese with a fresh side salad garnish, and home-made chutney. Although the pub was quite busy with diners, the meal came within 15 minutes, despite the barman forewarning me that "...we have a number of orders in the pipeline, so there may be a bit of a wait..." He even came out into the carpark to fetch me when my meal was ready, as I had returned to my car to attend to my dogs.
I could not fault it.

Kings Head, Bonsall

Fabulous old pub. Very friendly, in a "WOW" village! The place is so steeped in history, it makes you dizzy. Only been in the summer - when the dogs were made as welcome as i was - but i should like to see it around Christmas - very, very cosy atmosphere. Might get cut off tho' - they have plenty of snow.
