The Duke of Wellington, Minehead

Well what can one say, this pub has the smelliest toilets I have ever had the misfortune to visit. When I pointed out the awful smell to the barman/manager all he said was "Yeah I know"
People sitting eating at tables near the door to the toilets either had no sense of smell or they were used to smells like this.
The beer was not in very good condition, although the barman did remove the sparkler at my request. A definite NO from me. If this was the only pub in Minehead I would be TT. Try the Britannia at Alcombe, 100% better.

Britannia In, Minehead

What a cracking little pub. Friendly staff and management, and well kept beers. The barman remembered my choice on each visit, even down to my preference of a nonic glass. Well worth the short walk from the Caravan Club site and avoiding the Minehead town pubs that are a bit of a disaster as far as I am concerned, probably down to the clientele rather than management.
Lovely walled garden when the sun shone, didn't try the food, although I did see others tucking in. Will definitely visit again when in the area.

The Roebuck Inn, Wickham

I walked through the woods from the Caravan Club site looking forward to a pint. I have previously walked to Wickham Square via the old railway line, which takes about 45 mins. This walk was on a hot day and only took 25 mins. There was no real ale, the only drink resembling a beer was a gassed tiddly tap London Pride. NO THANK YOU, so I settled for a pint of Strongbow. I was charged 3.95, yes 3.95 for this mediocre cider. Needless to say I only had the one and left.
My impression was an untidy place in need of a good spring clean with greedy ownership. I paid only 3.10 for a superior cider (Thatchers Gold) in a country pub in Somerset a few days before.
I will walk the extra distance to the Square on my next visit to the area.
