The New Inn, Whitstable

Would you like a pub in which you can have a conversation rather than compete with loud music and louder customers? Somewhere which welcomes locals and visitors equally? A bit of food, perhaps? This pub, while small and narrow, manages to get an 8-seater restaurant in, even if you might have to go in one door and out of the other to avoid embarrassing contact near the bar! If you want amusement, you can always watch in awe as the landlady runs out to respond to being called out on a Lifeboat "shout" or snigger at the landlord as he tries in vain to complete the crossword. The dog is friendly. If you're a visitor to the town and like the more traditional pub, get past Harbour Street and give it a try. They've recently redecorated many parts and now have some seating outside for the warmer weather.
