The Anvil Inn, Sawdon

Following recommendation by friends, my husband and I decided to travel a little further afield to try the tempting dishes that The Anvil had to offer, and we were far from disapointed. From the moment you walk through the door of this delightful, picturesque country pub, the ambience envelops you like a long lost friend. We had booked a table for two in the bar area for early doors on a Friday evening, and following a hard week with our noses to the grindstone at respective places of work, we easily succumbed to the pleasures that were about to envelop our senses and wash away the weariness of the week in preparation for a relaxing weekend.
The pleasures began with two hand pulled pints of the finest ale that ever crossed my palate, Copper Dragon from Skipton Brewery. Whilst enjoying this extremely palatable beer we perused the menu-too many delightful things to choose from, which is good as they means repeated visits to this wonderful place, however following serious deliberations and several changes of mind, I opted for the Aromatic Crispy Duck with Chilli Jam and my husband chose the Soup of the Day which was Spicy Mediteranean Fish. The starters arrived with two piping hot homemade bread rolls, and it was all just to delightful to comprehend! The Crispy Duck was what appeared to be a full duck breast with the trimmings associated and it was immensely tasty, and the soup was equally enjoyed.
For our main course we both opted for the Rib Eye Steak, I ordered mine with stilton and spiced mango chutney and my husband opted for a plain steak, however you can also have the option of pepper sauce if preferred. The main course was served with home made 'fat' chips, new potatoes and two vegetables and everything was cooked and seasoned to absolute perfection. I can honestly say that I have not enjoyed a meal out as much as this one for quite a long time, the last one of this quality was at The Carpenters Arms at Felixkirk, it really is hard to beat.
My husband and I are desperate to return and sample the other delightful dishes that this quaint little spot has to offer. Next time we're leaving the car at home and enjoying more of the hospitality that this lovely place has to offer. It was good value for money too-two starters, two steaks, two pints of beer and two pints of beer shandy all in for just a smidge over 52-what more can you say apart from do they have any tables left for two for this Friday?
