I'm a big believer in pubs with adaquate seating and music at a volume which allows for comfortable conversation. As I'm only 21 some people find this amusing and refer to me as 'grandad'. However others have gradually been brought around to my way of thinking and recognised the way of 'the seat' and 'the conversation'.
I enjoy European beer, preferably dark and rich (like my women). Offer me an Aventinus and I'm yours.

A truly excellent selection of European beers, which is regularly updated to keep you on your toes. An extremely welcoming atmosphere with an airy upstairs area with a few couches and a cosy downstairs 'cellar' which feels like you're below deck on a ye olde style boat.
Also a pleasingly friendly and amateur (in a good way unless you're in a rush) approach to customer service.
The only pub in St Andrews which seems to cater for everyone - long may it prosper!

The Stables, St Andrews
I'm a regular visitor to The Stables and I'm a student...from England! Have yet to receive 'a pasting' - very disappointing!
