Winchester Pub Hotel, Highgate

If I worked in a pub, I would aim to treat all customers like they were regulars - that is how you ultimately earn true regulars. When paying for a round of drinks, I asked if they offer a cash-back service, I was told "You can have �10, unless you're a regular, in which case you can have up to �20". I lied and said I was a regular - she disappeared to check with the 'manageress', then returned to say, "sorry, it's �10 for you". The money was intended to be spent over their bar!

Petty I know, but I won't be returning here because they openly discriminated me, which was embarrassing and incredibly rude. Needless to say, I finished my pint and left with my measly tenner firmly grasped in hand.

Pool, Shoreditch

They should have called this place 'The Rappers Room'. As mentioned, it's over the road from the Elbow Room, but doesn't compete where playing pool is concerned, as they only have 3 pool tables, which are usually occupied by gangsta rapper types.

Downstairs is pretty cool - great for a dance. At least it would be if they played less of that angry rap shite and something a bit more happy. However, rap is what people want these days, so these places have to run with the majority vote (remember, it's just MY opinion)!

Angies, Holloway

I quite like this place. It's not the cleanest pub in Archway, but I find the locals non-threatening and it's good for a game of pool.

Also, they occasionally get musicians playing there, which livens things up no-end.
