The Fox, Twickenham

My first time in this pub for ages and I can second the last writer's thumbs up of the 'new' Fox- basic lower bar but clean and nice old prints, with top class ale (tried the Twickenham Grandstand) and a guv,nor who seemed keen to promote his 6-ale range including TT Landlord. Great to see it back and a worthy addition to the delights of Church St (can't let the Eel Pie have it all its own way, can we?)

This is top notch for beer and food - never had a bad one - and it offers probably the best atmosphere anywhere in the area, if you value a quiet pint and civilised chat. But the service is what differentiates this place from all other 'Spoons' however, with all the guys and gals in the ER a cut above the sullen bunch who serve in the Wibbas Down or Coronation Hall (try there if you really like being ignored, surreybeerdrinker!)

The Edward Rayne, Raynes Park

Visited again last Friday night and now know why this pub is a cut above most 'Spoons' - packed to the doors with people just chatting or generally enjoying themselves. Great atmosphere and totally oik-free! The service was both swift and respectful (none of the 'y'awright there mate?'s so characteristic of the 'approach to customer service' in Kingston and Surbiton). There were more staff around too with no less than two seniors, including mighty guv'nor Dean keeping an eye on standards (the other was even sweeping up dog ends from the pavement outside when we arrived!)

So if you a civilised experience courtesy of Wetherspoons (glad to see they'd pushed the boat out a bit on guest ales too - the Stonehenge Eye Opener was luvvly jubbly) this is the place to come. Take a bow The ER!
