Up The Junction, Reading

@blackandwhite

Your experience was most likely down to your own attitude rather than the regulars. There are many people who now frequent the bar after 'falling in' with the usual suspects and becoming part of the social scene, both inside and outside of the Junction.

The Allied Arms, Reading

Excellent pub and one I try to visit after the usual distressing shopping visit to the town centre. Landlord is a top bloke and as the place is so tiny, you often get involved in conversations with complete strangers. Where else in Reading would you be entertained by a genuine Punch & Judy man doing his impromptu act based on Quentin Tarantino? Class.

The Alehouse, Reading

Haven't been in for a while but on my first (and last, as you'll hear why) I was extremely annoyed by the bar staff. I ordered an ale recommended by the friend that took me in, it was very strong in taste and as I'd paid for it, I was determined to drink it. I went back to the bar and asked for a top of lemonade to take the edge off it. I was told I couldn't do that by the barmaid. I said I was willng to pay and again was told no. I asked why and was informed that 'we don't put lemonade in our beer'. I politely pointed out that as I had paid for it, it was my beer and I could do what I wanted with it. At that point the landlord (or manager, but certainly the man in charge) became involved. I took a different tack and asked for a half a lemonade. Despite selling it, again I was refused. At this point I said I was leaving, to which the landlord replied 'good and don't come back'. Needless to say I haven't.
