The Farmers Inn, Scaynes Hill

Went there with my Wife for a meal yesterday. Should have realised that a good pub is a busy one, as there were very few people in there for Sunday lunch on a beautiful day. There were a few outside tables which were covered in bird droppings that were obviously very rarely cleaned. The menu is limited - a handful of dishes including pub 'classics' and a pasta dish. I went for the 12oz steak - for �18 I was expecting it to be very, very good. It wasn't - completely overcooked, and not particularly tasty. When you compare this to the likes of the Cowdray Arms that serves exceptional food at similar prices, I can't believe they think they can get away with this. My wife went for the Chicken and Ribs, but they soon came to tell us that they were out of this, so she had to switch to something else. Every single lager (about 5 or 6 on tap) had an 'unavailable' notice on it. I went for a 275ml bottle of lager (for 2.95!), and the barman just grabbed 2 telling me it was much better value to go for 2 for �5! That's a fiver for a pint of lager, great value! All in all, a real disappointment and I will never return given how many great alternatives there are within a 10 mile radius.
