The Spread Eagle Inn, Stourton

Contrary to earlier posters, I found both the beer and food here excellent. The pub was very crowded when I visited, but the staff were very attentive and helpful.

The Red Lion, Gillingham

This is a good pub if you like TV and sport. On the other hand, if you are looking for some peace and quiet, it may not be your cup of tea.

George Inn, Mere

New landlords arrived at this pub in October 2009, and have been breathing new life into this lovely 16th century building, with traditional flagstone flooring and good views over the main square. Definitely worth a diversion from the A303. We stayed here overnight and the room was quite reasonable - the bed itself was very comfortable.
