The White Swan, Twickenham

I used to live in the area, when this pub was a great place for a drink and a meal beside the Thames. Met family for lunch there yesterday....hoping to sit outside, but rain prevented this. The inside has been refurbished, and is ok. Staff appeared to have had little training in customer service, and seemed very vague about tabs, etc. Menu was tatty, hardly readable, food overpriced and really diabolical! Sandwiches were 6.50 each...all bread and little filling. These were accompanied by the most foul "chips"...unpeeled new potatoes, deep fried and soggy. Not that any of us wanted chips with sandwiches, but these were insulting.

All very sad for a pub in such a superb location.

The Half Moon, Windlesham

Place has a nice, large garden, ideal for lunch yesterday. However the food was quite appalling. "Home-cooked" chicken curry....sauce was from a bottle. Mushroom omelette was completely dry, 1 prawn baguette, and 1 prawn sandwich both contained tasteless chewy tiger prawns. Food bill was 30, and we had to wait 30 minutes after ordering. Sure the place was busy, but it would have been courteous if the barmaid had advised that there would be this delay. Never again.

Ely, Blackwater

Just happened to pass this large pub last week, and stopped for lunch. Have to say that food was superb, along with the very friendly service. I had what may seem like a boring ham, egg, and chips, but it was just great, have not tasted ham like that in years, And the eggs were runny, as requested. Friend had a smoked fish salad, which he enjoyed immensely. No idea what this place is like in the evening.
