The Ditton, Long Ditton

Good Beer, but Food was a let-down.

Recently visited this place.
Had a pint of Sharps Doom Bar which was well kept , other colleagues have
commented favourably on the choice of beer.

The new decor is a great improvement since the refurnishment.

However the food was a real disappointment.
We had hoped to try the Belly Pork & the Spare Ribs but both were sold out at 7:30 on a Saturday Night. That suggests to me that somebody isn';t very good at ordering enough ingredients to last a weekend.

I settled for a Burger at 8.50 (cheese & bacon were an extra 75p each which seemed rather steep) & my wife ordered the Lamb Massaman curry at 9.50.

The curry arrived with Cashew nuts included despite no mention of that on the menu. She wouldn;t have ordered if she knew about this & this would be completely unacceptable if you had a nut allergy.

The rest of the curry was 'fairly flavourless' & was notable for the lack of meat included. There were only 4 or 5 chunks of meat and this was very stringy.
NO accompaniments other than a small portion of plain rice.
No naan braed, poppadums or pickles either.

My burger arrived on a very anaemic looking bun, which had not been toasted or cooked in any way. This just tasted like plain white bread.

The burger itself was only OK - except that the so-called chilli relish looked & tasted more like Heinz Ketchup!

I think they could have done so much more very easily, with better ingredients and they should also provide more details on their menu.

Other pubs in the area provide much better value for similar prices or less
(such as Prince of Wales in Esher or Swan in Claygate)

Didn't stay for pudding , not surprisingly,

The Bear, Esher

I've always found the Bear to be reasonable.

Yes - the drinks are expensive & no doubt the food is as well, but this is one of the most expensive areas in Surrey .
They do have a very good range of beers on tap & if you're meeting friends it's about the only palce in Esher where you have a chance of geeting a table.
