The Salisbury, Harringay

It's a beautiful art nouveau building that serves a wide selection of beers - including all the usual Fullers stuff. During the day you can have a nice quiet pint and some great food - they also do pretty good pizzas. I think the food is served until fairly late. The food will be good but's not cheap, particularly for the ares which has more than it's share of excellent Turkish restauranrs.

last Friday of the month = Salisbury Circus. Live music in the back room (soul/funk/blues), everyone dancing - and it's completely free. If it's not your thing it's a big pub and you can just sit in the main area.

I would say it's worth a trek even if you're not in North London - just get the tube to Manor House and head down Green Lanes!

The George Tavern, Stepney

This is great pub, nothing pretentious about it. Has some great live bands playing blues, rock 'n' roll, motown and so on. Normal pub prices, and a small charge when bands are playing - but you get there early enough aand it's free.

I was hungry there one night, asked if I could go get a kebab, they were fine about it.

Friendly staff, friendly people and great live music! My favourite pub in the East End. The beers not bad either.
