The George And Dragon, Acton

Heard they have a new chef in the kitchen so went to try it out. To start I had the chicken livers on granary toast which were spot on and to follow I had the chicken wrapped in smoked bacon with mash and kale which was equally good. I found the menu well balanced and look forward to trying more and I have heard they serve a good roast on a sunday. They could however have done with the fires burning on such a cold day.

The White Cross, Richmond

Decided to pop in for a late lunch thinking we could get a simple, well cooked bit of pub grub on a freezing cold day. Unfortunatley we choose the wrong day!! We ordered sausage & mash and a steak and ale pie with mash. The mash was badly lumpy and the spuds not even cooked properly. The onions were not caramelised and smothered in dried herbs and too much bisto!! The pie had the same affliction of lumpy mash and was bascially beef casserole with a puff pastry lid.
On a positive note the guy working behind the bar that dealt with problem was most apologetic and gave us a full refund. I hope this is just a one off as we regularly use the pub.
Come on chef, take a bit more pride in your work.
