The Great Northern Railway Tavern, Hornsey

I have to agree with the previous couple of posters. The new owners have done a fantastic job restoring this beautiful pub, and the service is good, but the pub is really let down by the choice of beer on offer; neither Pride nor Greene King IPA are especially exciting offerings, and they don't stock a wheat beer, which seems a bit of an oversight.

This is a far nicer building than the Compasses, and yet we always end up across the street on account of the real ales on offer. We've popped our heads in a couple of times since our first visit, but sacked it off when we've seen the (lack of) ales on offer. Shame.

The Queens Head, St Pancras

Friendly staff, a good selection of beers and ciders at decent prices, and even though its not the biggest pub in the world, I always seem to get a table. Much less intense/busy than most pubs in the area, and a top spot for a midweek drink. Cracking Pork pies too.

The Southampton Arms, Gospel Oak

We were wandering past yesterday, and decided to pop in for a quick pint. Had several one-for-the-roads, and eventually left five hours later; its that sort of place. Pretty much my idea of a perfect pub; friendly and welcoming bar staff who were happy to let us sample the excellent beers (and even the wine), busy but not rammed, Neil Young on the record player, and possibly the finest Scotch egg that Ive ever eaten. We liked it a lot.
