White Hart, Puckeridge

Met some friends here who were over from France. Traditional old English interior with beams, inglenook, etc. All four of us enjoyed the food. We tried the AK and the Country Bitter, both were exceptionally good. The whole pub is really well kept in spotless condition. The landlady takes time to make everyone feel welcome. We live only about 16 miles from the pub and will certainly be returning from time to time. Our friends from France, though, may not be visiting so regularly.

The Sun Inn, Chobham

The Sun Inn is everything you would hope for in an old, traditional, English pub. My wife and I spend every second month living in France and one of the things I miss is a meal in a traditional pub together with real English ale. We found the Sun Inn by chance a year ago (October 2008) when we just happened to notice the pub whilst meandering our way to Woking. Since then we have made two more purposeful trips just to have a meal there. It is by no means our local as we live in Bedfordshire - a good hour and a half away! It is easy to get to for anyone wanting a break from travelling on the M25 or the M3.

On our first visit the cellar was flooded and the manager was unable to change the empty barrels so I was limited in my choice of beer. On our subsequent visits, however, there were a few more to choose from. I recommend the Hogs Back ales. On each visit we found there to be a good meal choice and the food is of the highest quality and served in generous portions at very reasonable prices.

All in all, we can wholeheartedly recommend the Sun Inn at Chobham - the epitome of a traditional, old English Inn.
