Profile information

I'm passionate about pubs and drinking generally.

I don't have a particular type, but lean more towards a good old fashioned boozer than an uber trendy wine bar. Although I frequent both!

Love using sites like this to plan a pub crawl!

Project Orange, Battersea

Went to Clapham Junction last night on a recon mission to find the most appropriate bar to go on Friday night with friends over from Ireland.

I have to say of the six, Project Orange was by far my favourite.

Seriously quirky and odd, unlike any bar Ive been in in London. I suppose it could be the illegitimate pub-child of The Intrepid Fox and a hash bar in Amsterdam called Ricks Caf. With a lot of green lighting, dodgy bad-trip murals and pot plants.

It was quiet but then it was a Tuesday. Got served instantly. Drinks average price. Music was excellent (Red Hot Chilli Peppers/ Beck). I didnt want to leave! Claims to have over 40 beers and it stays open later than most others I tried (1pm).

Its the sort of bar Id go to in California and say if only they had bars like this in London. Might not be to everyones taste (girls with Gucci bags will not like it!) but I will definitely be returning probably this Friday!

The Goat, Battersea

P.S. Should add the drinks were best priced of the four bars we bought a round in (6 for a Peroni and a whisky/soda)

The Goat, Battersea

Went to Clapham Junction last night on a recon mission to find the most appropriate bar to go on Friday night with friends over from Ireland. I had a shortlist of 6 bars and added the Goat as Id seen some good reviews on other sites.

First impressions were really good. It was spacious (unlike the too-small Holy Drinker nearby), quite dark (in a good way), breezy, and nicely buzzing for a Tuesday night. It also had a gloriously satanic goat mural covering the far wall which I liked.

I would have seriously considered the Goat as our Friday night choice except that it closed too early (midnight) and worse of all it took too long to get served (about 10 minutes on a Tuesday night). The bar seemed understaffed, and several tables upstairs were covered with dirty glasses and crockery which remained there until one of the few overworked bar staff had a chance to clear them.

A good bar but needs double the staff.
