This is a friendly local with a log fire in the cosy bar and a large restaurant at the back.
Usually three or four well-kept real ales on the handpumps, maybe including the local Itchen Valley Godfather and a couple of guest beers.
The blackboard food menu includes baguettes and pub favourites like cod and chips, as well as more substantial meals and Sunday roasts. Choices are a bit limited, and The Swan doesn't pretend to be a gastro-pub, but this is decent home cooking with something to suit most tastes.
In summer, pick a table in the small front garden and watch the world go by.

The Five Bells, Nether Wallop
New licensees had just taken over when I visited today with friends.
The bar was warm and welcoming with a fire burning in the grate and several people - probably locals - were already drinking at the bar. The pub was clean and comfortable, with a short lunchtime bar menu of filled ciabattas and hot dishes, all very reasonably priced at around £5.50- £7.50. There was also a longer a la carte chalkboard menu.
We chose from the bar menu: the service was friendly and efficient, and the food was good and well presented. I can't comment on the beer as we were on soft drinks.
This was a very pleasant surprise after reading some of the other reviews, and we've booked to go back at the weekend.
