The Agricultural, Penrith

Great pub, just across the road from the station and a short walk from the town centre. We found it while staying at the Travelodge just up the road when en route to Scotland last December and spent a very pleasant evening there. Just been back to the "Aggie" for a family reunion at lunchtime - 5 adults and 2 teenagers.

Beer was in tip-top condition - a good range of Jennings' ales plus a guest beer. The food is excellent and good value for money (enormous portions). Both the bar and restaurant areas are comfortable and welcoming - real fires in winter too. Smashing pub.

The Albert Hotel, Tamworth

Good news (I think). The Albert has re-opened!

We called in today (4th September) and were told the pub re-opened about a week ago. The bar area has been refurbished but the handpumps are still there and they plan to have guest beers. The kitchen is being refitted/brought up to date and they hope to be serving food very soon. We didn't stay long enough to have a pint as we had to catch a train. Unable to rate the pub at this point, but it looks promising. Worth another recce.
