The Bavarian Beerhouse, Tower Hill

Really, really awful. Surroundings basic and every surface seems to be sticky to the touch. German beers are fine but nothing outstanding. Food was some of the worst I've had in London, and that's saying something. Avoid like the plague.

The Old Dispensary, Whitechapel

A good pub in many respects but ruined by poor management. Nice surroundings, a good choice of ales and excellent food. However the attitude emanating from the overbearing owner was breathtaking. Whilst enjoying our main course we noticed our drinks were running low. The owner flitted amongst tables seemingly oblivious to our empty glasses, too busy staring at her clipboard to answer the numerous calls for service. Perhaps she felt collecting the empties or asking for orders was beneath her. Upon questioning this attitude we were met with the classic line 'I don't think the customer is always right'. Carry on like that dear and you won't have any customers. Shame, as the actual building and setting is great.
