Charles Cotton Hotel, Hartington

Nice enough pub and a decent range of beers which was visited at the end of a walk. Whilst staff were friendly enough, it was clear that they were more interested in the customers who were eating in the pub.

The Red Lion Inn, Litton

This is the second time recently that Ive gone into a pub after a walk in the peak District and, once its known that were only ordering drinks and not food, been met with a fairly cool welcome. On this occasion, the staff could not really have been clearer. Its a shame because its a nice pub with a choice of local beers. You might argue that its inevitable in honeypot villages like this, but it hardly encourages you to return and so is short-sighted. Whats more we waited so long for the teas that were ordered that we ended up asking for our money back.

The Asparagus, Battersea

Visited this pub, as I was staying at the nearby Travelodge. It tends to confirm my view of the majority of Wetherspoons pubs that I've visited - they lack a distinctive identity, probably because they are part of a chain and this one was no exception. On the plus side, the beer was decent and the food was cheap. It wasn't fantastic food, but it was by no means bad and as a visitor looking for somewhere to eat and drink, it fitted the bill. It was quite busy between six and seven with a good number of diners, but quickly emptied after seven and got a bit soulless. Not really a place to linger, but fine to pop into for a drink and a bite to eat.
