The Keep, Guildford

The Keep is quite the undiscovered gem in Guildford. Situated just off the main high street, opposite to the Castle grounds, it doesn't see the regular trade a more centrally placed pub might. Which is a shame because the pub itself is fantastic!

The dcor is exactly how intended, dark and old. It gives a feeling of age and reflects the history attached to the pub itself.

The food is all home cooked and tastes great, it's very reasonable too!

The Keep is a small and well kept establishment. It's hard to compete with large chain companies like Wetherspoons, but what the keep has that they don't is quality and character.

A definite visit if you're a keen pub crawler!

The Astolat, Guildford

The Astolat is actually a very nice pub despite the low rating it's received here.

The unfortunate thing is, the pub is quite large but it's usually empty. Unfortunately for the owner he hasn't targetted the student market! Being so close the University of Surrey campus gives weight to the afore mentioned issue...

However, the pub is clean, tidy, has a darts board, a pool table, lots of TVs and the staff are all really friendly!

Recently the pub has loaned it's kitchen to an Indian Restaurant, which to be fair is a great plan (Curry AND beer!? hell yes!).
