The Bricklayers Arms, Fitzrovia

The best of the Sam Smith pubs in the area for my money. The dark-wood and etched-glass look is getting a little cliched for me. There's something of the country-pub downstairs (a basic front bar, darts in the back room) but more of the city upstairs (deep sofas, coffee tables, pot plants). If only I could teach myself to like Sam Smith's bitter ....

The Doric Arch, Euston

Surprisingly good pub that overcomes two obstacles - it's part of the expanding (and expensive) Fullers chain, and it's a railway station pub (in the courtyard of Euston station). Good choice of real ales, bar staff are always efficient and well trained, prices are more reasonable than some nearby pubs. Always a pleasure to visit.

The Royal George, Euston

Right next to a major rail and tube station and taking advantage of those too busy / lazy to look a little further. Other nearby pubs can charge about £4 for a pint so why is a perfectly ordinary bitter £4.60 here? Ordinary decor and food don't justify the price. Get's my vote as the worst pub in this area
