The Craft Beer Co, City of London

Never been here since it was transformed into this new beer house: The Craft Beer Co. With a name like that, I expected groups of beardies about the place, BO and bad breath. However, I was pleasantly surprised. A good, clean, interesting and friendly pub. Much improved on what it used to be when it was called "The Clock House." Very pricey on a number of it's large lines of beers. Worth a visit in any case if your in the area.

Ye Old Mitre, Holborn

An ever reliable drinking haunt. Hasn't changed in years, if ever so, for the better. No sign of the old boy, "Hello Uncle!", a character of Hatton Garden; I'm assuming he's away on holiday? Clean, busy, but comfortable as ever was. Had an enjoyable chat with the attractive landlady from Hull. Very good beer and toasted sandwiches too.

The Crown Tavern, Clerkenwell

I used to go here in the 1970s and 80s, and have very happy memories of a well run, friendly and pleasant pub. The place has been done up, obviously since; and the beer too. There's a recession in all but name going on, not that I can't afford to drink, but this is one place that is having a laugh on the pricing front. Your best off, buying drink off licence at a shop and drinking outside on the public benches in the square. Particularly if your a smoker, as the staff try to shoo you away from sitting and smoking along the frontage. Best in fact to go along to the Gun makers just down & up the hill to the right. Better beer, cheaper, more charming staff and tobacco tolerant outside.
