I like this pub, but the only downside is the fact that there always a Kevin Keegan lookalike (female ) who hogs the dart board.
Other than that the Alpine = lunchtime goodness.

EnglishGent - agreed. Bloody tube staff drinking when they should be working (or striking).
Pie was great in here, set me up for a lovely afternoon food coma and the Deuchars was pretty good when I had it last.

Not a bad little pub although it does take an age for your pint of Guinness to be poured and they insist on putting a shamrock on the top.
Bangers and Mash is great - the Mash is made with Smash.. ooo lovely.

Padderborn I'm guessing by your comments that you're not English and quite frankly thank God that you're not representing our nation. If you want to go and read a paper in peace (loner), I suggest you go to a coffee shop - there are quite a few around here.
Perfectly good watering hole, perfectly good atmosphere and not loud at all. Great place for a lunchtime drink. Lovely.

Simply brilliant. Went here for the first time last night - great atmosphere, lovely landlady. Excellent excellent. 10/10.

The Pig and Whistle, Earlsfield
A friend of mine begged me to go with him to the Pig (as he used to live in the area and not been back for a while).
I tried to tell him not to bother, but we went all the same.
He now vows never to go in there again. He remarked how the bar staff had to continually run out to the local corner shop to buy more tomato juice for his bloody mary(s), which meant that it took ages for him to get a drink.
For my part, nothing has changed (it's only been a month since i posted so I'll try to be fair) - the toilets still stink, the bar staff are still slow and the beer still continues to taste (I imagine) like the urine from the afore mentioned loos - hope to god they haven't got their pipes mixed up...but that would explain things.
On the plus side, they've got rid of a few tables from the main seating area, which actually allows you to enter the pub easily.
The worst pub in the area. Fact.

Great place, friendly bar staff - just what I don't get from the Pig & Whistle up the road.
Worth the 15 minute walk from home!

I've joined BITE for the simple fact that I have to complain about this pub. I've been a resident in the area for the past 6 years and this pub has gone downhill massively.
What's wrong with this pub?
1. The barman has one eye watching the TV while he's pouring your pint, so your service ends up being slow.
2. No please, no thank you.
3. He spends more time playing the fool behind the bar, desperately trying to get the female barstaff's attention.
4. The beer tastes awful - clean the pipes perhaps?
5. The place looks a tip.
6. The food is crap and overpriced.
I could go on. I now have to resort to walking down to Earlsfield to get a decent pint. This could be such a good pub and it's a shame that nothing has been done about this yet. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.. please please please we need a decent boozer in our area!

The Barley Mow, Westminster
The worst thing about this place is that they've stopped smoking inside (yes that's down to the smoking ban I know) and the result is that you now smell the puke stained, bile ridden carpets inside.
On the upside, they got rid of the bar man/woman who used to sing at you in a very high voice.
Nice when it's sunny (so you are outside and don't smell the carpets), not so nice when it's raining (in which case we would be somewhere else).
