The Birch Hall Inn, Beck Hole

If you fancy getting away from those environmentally unfriendly steam trains on the moors for a while then walk from Goathland to Grosmont and call in at this wonderful little pub. Always does good beer and a nice pie. Open all day during the Summer

The Blue Boar Hotel, Maldon

Great beer in this pub with the Farmers brewery in the court yard. I like the old world feel of the place and that there is plenty of room outside to sit on a nice day.

The Anglers Rest, Millers Dale

This pub is getting better with every visit. Three real ales and the two I tried were spot on. The food was good and bar staff very friendly

The Queens Head, Maldon

Went into this pub last Saturday into the locals front bar. Barman too busy having his own drink and talking to a local to serve me. Another unemployed bar maid made eye contact twice but didn't come over and serve and yet another barmaid had her back to the bar doing nothing. Barman then served another local who came in after me. Not great customer service so I walked out.

The Waterloo Inn, Biggin

Now under new ownership. Sadly it has removed all local beers and gone for national brands you can buy anywhere. Emphasis seems to have switched more towards the food.

The Bakers Arms, Danbury

A traditonal exterior but heavily modernised inside. Sadly only does Greene King beer even though the landlord has access to a monthly beer list.

The Rodney Inn, Little Baddow

A very nice traditional country pub. The guest beer was excellent. I will visit it again.

The Railway Tavern, Chelmsford

Always a good guest beer or two in this pub and relaxed atmosphere. The railway theme even extends to the seating at the rear of the pub.

The Bull Inn, West Malling

A pub with good kept beer. Warm and cosy when I visited it on Saturday.

The North Star, Leytonstone

Alway well kept beer in here. The Butcombe Bitter is always very good and a friendly landlord too.

The Lobster Pot, West Malling

I cannot agree with the previous comments about this pub. It has gone downhill since I last visited it. Only three of the six handpumps had beer on and no cider any more. The landlord was barely intrested in serving me before returning to talk to one of his mates.

Ye Old Elm Tree, Durham

Found the beer range a bit disappointing mainly bigger brewery brands. Also opening times not clear or posted any where outside pub. Not sure it is worth the walk up the hill!

The Victoria Hotel, Durham

Great victorian pub with all the little rooms preserved. The range of beers was good and well kept which was impressive as I was the only customer on a Wednesday lunch time.

Blind Jacks, Knaresborough

The best pub for beer in Knaresborough but not food. They really need to sort out the Gents toilet so it is at least out of public view! I like the dark wooden interior.

The White Swan, Aldgate

Reasonable small pub but expensive. 3.30 for a pint of Earlybird.

The Castle, Cambridge

Been here many times and always found the service ok. It was again this weekend. The range of beers also includes some guest ales as well. The food is also pretty good.

The Rising Sun, East Malling

Good locals pub with good value real ale.

The King and Queen, East Malling

The beer has improved since the last review. Westerham Summer Perle and Sharps Doombar was on. However the prices are close to central London which is a bit disappointing.

The Vine (Bull & Bladder), Brierley Hill

Always a delight to come here and sup Bathams. They also do a pretty good pork pie. .

The Albion, Colchester

Friendly landlord who serves well kept beer.

24 Nov 2008 22:47

The Eight Jolly Brewers, Gainsborough

By far the best pub in Gainsborough for real ale. It always has something interesting on the handpumps.

24 Nov 2008 22:21

The Chough, Salisbury

Fairly spartan pub inside but does a big range of Hidden beers. Judging by the food it is attempting to be a gastro pub.

26 Oct 2008 18:51

The Duck Inn, Laverstock

A modern pub tucked in the back streets of Laverstock.Did a decent pint of Crop Circle. Was certainly open at 2.30 on Saturday.

26 Oct 2008 18:43

The Old Scalby Mills, Scarborough

Nice cosy pub with great sea views of Scarborough North Bay. The beer was good and the food filling.

1 Jul 2008 23:03

The Forresters, High Ongar

Fairly basic locals pub but does do Brentwood beer and it is well kept

1 Jul 2008 22:56

The Bulls Head, Ashford in the Water

Small friendly pub which does top quality Robinsons beer.

1 Jul 2008 22:53

The White Lion Hotel, Great Longstone

Did a reasonable steak and chips and the Robinsons beer was ok.

1 Jul 2008 22:51

The Crispin, Great Longstone

Very quiet when I went in on Monday night. I think it is more of a food pub but they do a reasonable pint of Robinsons.

The Red Lion Inn, Litton

A lunch time visit to this pub provided some excellent beer. The smoked salmon sandwich was good too. Well worth the walk up Tideswell Dale!

26 Jun 2008 23:16

The Anglers Rest, Millers Dale

I don't recognise the comments of the previous review. The lady behind the bar was friendly and helpful about their guest beer. I thought the pub was OK. It had a separate bar which welcomed walkers. I would go there again.

26 Jun 2008 23:11

New Delight Inn, Blackshaw

Had a very nice lunch here the other Sunday. Their own beer was quite good too.

28 Apr 2008 21:30

The Stubbing Wharf, Hebden Bridge

Good range of beers and fairly friendly bar staff. Can be busy in the evenings but seemed quiet on a Saturday. Good summer pub if you are happy watching the world go down the canal.

28 Apr 2008 21:22

The Black Lion, Nantwich

Well worth a visit if only for the Weetwood beer which was in excellent condition. Very much a dog lovers pub.

28 Apr 2008 21:17

The Globe Inn, Nantwich

The pub owner and brewer of the Woodlands beer was very friendly. The beer was in excellent condition. Too far way to be my local though!
