The Dock Inn, Penzance

Popped in after the Pirates/Plymouth game on Christmas Eve - very good pint of Doombar (2:80) followed by a Spingo. Pleasant surroundings and good service.

Half and Half, Croydon

Very good condition Dark Star ales at very reasonable prices. Draught Budvar (original and Dark). Lined glasses, top nibbles, very friendly staff - what more could one want!

The Grape and Grain, Crystal Palace

One of the best selections of beer I've seen outside of a beer festival! Eight hanpumps with micro-brewery products including Dark Star, Westerham, Elgood's and Harviestoun beers. My Elgood's Golden Newt was in good condition and correct temperature - 3 per pint. Also an interesting selection of keg beers including a Meantime Brewery beer.

The Skylark, Croydon

One of JDW's better pubs. Good selection of cask-conditioned ales - with a good choice of sub-4% ales. All served in good condition at a decent temperature. Good to see Westerham Brewery ales regularly available. Service is efficient. Varied clientele - mostly decent types.

The Glamorgan, Croydon

Three real Ales: usually Harvey's and two guests - I've always found them to be in good nick - prices reasonable.

The Claret Free House, Addiscombe

The Claret is a far more interesting prospect now, in the non-smoking era! Great selection of ales - many from smaller breweries - good to see beers from Hepworths and Surrey Hills brewery. Also good range of 'real' cider. And all at decent prices. The pub is very convenient for the Tramstop. My only criticism is the lack of beers below 4% and the rarity of milds.

The Star Inn, Crowlas

Recently had a holiday in this area and was getting very tired of Skinner's and Sharp's - then Hallelujah!! We found this great pub. CAMRA Pub-of-the-year 2007 and much deserved! 5/6 Real Ales from micro-breweries all in very good condition and at a decent price. Friendly landlord and locals. Soon to become a brewpub. The pub can be reached by bus from St.Ives and Penzance.

The Bull's Head Hotel, Brecon

Just spent a week in Brecon and found this pub to be, by far, the best in Brecon. Four handpumps serving Evan Evans beer, all in excellent condition. Staff and locals were very friendly - as were the pub dogs and cat!
