Its not loud. Its not a spotless newly furbed chain pub. Its not a pub for posh nosh...or dressing up. But it is great. Great beer, friendly staff, good value decent food. Often a good mix of locals, walkers, and those from canal boats. If you'd like to try the best down to earth pub in these parts, this is it.

Pretentious. Shame about some of the clientelle. There are plenty of other pleasant places to drink near here.

This has been a favourite of mine for years. Always a decent choice of real ales. You pay no more than most other pubs. Never any trouble...there's rarely any young punks here. Open all day. This pub is very rugby orientated. Watch out for the beer festivals.

Good selection of beer, usually well kept and well priced. The food is basic, but reasonably priced and its OK. But if you go here in the evening you will often find a lengthy queue waiting to be served. Its very annoying. And this pub does attract more than its fair share of idiots game for a fight. Visit in the daytime.

The Limes Hotel, Needham Market
We did bed and breakfast here. The downstairs pub is fine. Ale is fine with a reasonable choice. But the hotel is a mare. They messed up our booking. And talking about messes...the room...oh dear. Dirty. Beyond redecoration. Obvious signs that our room had been burgled...from the side window and the corridor door. Breakfast was plentiful, but quite greasey. And with this in mind the price of the room was a complete rip off at �85. Have a drink here. Do not stay here. The score of 5 is for the pub!

Poor service. Long wait for food. So long we walked out hungry. 'Choice' of real ales consists of 1 beer...which doesn't appear to be kept very well. We will not be going back.

The Case is Altered, Five Ways
Look, if you want beer in the evening, then this is where to go. No loud music, no meals, no kids, no lager (OK maybe 1 lager). Just beer. In an old fashioned pub. Enjoy.
