Eight Bells, Bures

Had a nice roast dinner here on Sunday, at 7 it's very good value. Had lots of beers on but most (5 out of 7) were GK. The pints of Nethergate Growler and Youngs ordinary i had were in good nic. Overall a good pub.

The Malet Arms, Newton Tony

Nice little pub. Stopped for lunch on a lovely spring day. Beer- tastes fresh and well kept, from local brewerys. Food- realy nice; i had sausage and mash and it was fantastic.

Sheffield Tap, Sheffield

Great pub, fantastic selection of interesting and wonderful beers. Thornbridge are fast becoming my favorite brewery, enjoyed in this great pub with its eclectic mix of punters: perfect!

The Highbury Vaults, Bristol

Nice pub. Visited on a busy friday night. Good mixed crowd. Bar Billiards, great beer and fantastic character make this a great little pub.

Charters Bar, Peterborough

Great Idea.... pub in a barge. Loads of ale, well kept. Fantastic!

Yates's, Colchester

not a pub

Old Gaol House, Winchester

One of the better spoons. Good selection of ale. It's a bit rough, as are some of the customers but makes for an interesting pub with a good mix of clientele. 6.5/10

The Square and Compass, Worth Matravers

One of the UKs classic pubs. Other comments say it all. 10/10

28 Jul 2009 16:27

Kings Arms, Langton Matravers

Interesting pub, lots of windows into other rooms, strange. Try and work out what parts where built when. Visited on a quiet weekday night. Beer was nice but boring selection. Ok pub

The Red Lion, Swanage

Proper boozer. Good beer but a bit uninspired in selection. Dont think the staff are as bad as whatsgoingon says, I got served quickly and the staff were young but polite. The food was good quality pub grub and very yummy. 8/10

Fitzgeralds Sunderland, Sunderland

Nice pub good beer, filling food. I'll visit again if im in Sunderland. 9/10

The Steamboat Tavern, Ipswich

Quite a nice pub. Bit 'spit'n sawdust' but seems well run with good music. It goes to show simple pubs can survive if they do things right. Shame it is a GK pub (or seems that way). Had the mild, ok, but a bit tired. Good pub let down by bland GK beers. 7/10

15 Jun 2009 19:40

The Eels Foot Inn, Eastbridge

Adnams house with good selection of their beers, including Tally Ho on my visit. Food was good and staff helpful. Nice pub, just not overly exsiting. 8/10

9 May 2009 13:34

The New Dungeon Ghyll Hotel, Langdale

This is the classic pub. If in the Lakes it is a must visit. Food and beer both top class. 9/10

9 May 2009 13:26

The Peacock Inn, Chelsworth

Good selection of beer, not local as off PubCo list. New people seem to be trying hard. I just find it dull inside. lovely village, worth poping in for a pint. 6.5/10

The Hare Inn, Long Melford

Friendly staff, GK beer served well, eclectic mix of people. Best pub in Melford.

18 Mar 2009 17:10

The George and Dragon, Long Melford

Shocking!!! Virtually ignored when we walked in. The beer was non-existant. Even with only an abysmal choice of IPA and Abbott on the hand pumps both where not on. So no Ales! So I went for the Heineken and that was off as well. A pint of disgusting fizzy cider then. The price of a round of drinks was extortionate. I thought this pub would be great and have heard good things but in reality it was one of the most pathetic pubs i have ever visited. A nice building in the middle of an affluent village and should be making a fortune but I wouldnt be surprised if it shut soon. 1/10

18 Mar 2009 17:08

The Bull Hotel, Long Melford

Not really a pub. Cosy little bar though. Beer was good, not just GK. Worth a visit if you want to chill in relaxed surroundings.

18 Mar 2009 16:55

The Crown Hotel, Long Melford

Nice. Some non GK beers, but a bit uninspired choices (landlord etc). Still much better than IPA IPA IPA IPA IPA...... Quite posh, good service.

18 Mar 2009 16:51

The Swan Inn, Long Melford

Has potential but does not live up to it. Sadly its a GK pub is a village full of GK pubs. Cosy bar and nice garden. Only Abbott was available when I visited. Loud punk which was great.

18 Mar 2009 16:47

The Wheelhouse, Naughton

Good beer, even a mild!. Looks nice from the outside but not as great inside (new floor etc) still ok. Nice little garden. Worth a visit.

18 Mar 2009 16:40

Wetherspoons, Ipswich

Cheep, bit rough, bad food but surprisingly good beer. 5/10.

15 Feb 2009 12:31

Mannings, Ipswich

Nice little pub in the town centre. Good range of beer, if a bit predicable. It is expensive considering spoons is next door. Good for people watching out the window. 7/10.

15 Feb 2009 12:28

The Kings Head, Bildeston

A very nice and professionally ran pub. This small pub on the villages main street has its own brewery. A recent change of hands has coincided with a marked improvement in the quality of the Ale. Food is not expensive and id call it high quality pub grub. Can get busy at weekends and is closed early in the week. The best of three pubs in the village. 8/10.

13 Feb 2009 12:39

The Wig & Pen, Colchester

No good beer. Had half of the back stuff, that was no good either. the place has no atmosphere. Waste of energy even turning your head to look in the window. 1/10

The Old Crown, Hesket Newmarket

Lovely location, just north of The Lakes. I think its the only community owed pub Ive been to and its a great concept. Everybody in the village uses the pub because they own a bit of it. It is the ultimate community pub. The beer, brewed round the back of the pub, was superb. Try Great Cock up Porter only 3%ABV. Nice feel :-couples and familys enjoying a meal round the back. A packed public bar with traditional music and a pool table attracts mixed clientele. 10/10

13 Feb 2009 09:52

The Evening Star, Brighton

I love this pub. Darkstar brew some of the best beer in the country and this is the best place to find it. Relaxed during the day very busy in the evening . Sit outside and watch the world go by, or just the sex shop opposite. Inside the decor is simple, a real traditional public bar. The pub is great but the beer is what makes it. 10/10

13 Feb 2009 09:41

The Nutshell, Bury St Edmunds

Great LITTLE pub. The Landlords a good bloke and will always chat to the few people that can fit in the pub. Pity its a GK pub. It is expensive but worth it for the atmosphere if not for the well kept but very bland beer. 8/10

13 Feb 2009 09:29

The Eight Bells, Alton

Really relaxing pub. Just sit back and chill out. The beer is of good quality and a reasonable selection. Seems like a great locals pub and being just off the town centre also attracts other drinkers (like me). Will go back next time Im in Alton. 8/10.

13 Feb 2009 09:15

The Butt and Oyster, Chelmondiston

This is a classic pub. I'm only an occasional visitor but the service and feel of the place has always been pretty good. The best thing about this pub though is its location. Go for a walk down by the broken barges then come back for a pint of Adnams and fish and chips. Give it a go. I prefer a bit more spit and sawdust and better choice of beer. 8/10.

13 Feb 2009 09:05

The Grover and Allen, Sudbury

Average Spoons. Food poor. Beer often to cold or on the turn. Sudbury now has the Mauldons Brewery Tap, go there or one of the many great pubs in surounding villages. 3/10.

13 Feb 2009 08:55

The Brewery Tap, Sudbury

At last a good pub is Sudbury. Nice selection of beer. No music or games machines. I'm afraid it makes all the other pubs in Sudbury look well below average. Bright and inviting interior. 9/10.

13 Feb 2009 08:51

The Wey Bridge, Alton

Music to loud and very bad. No beer just overpriced alcopops. Went in and straight out. The kinds of people who go here dont appreciate good food, drink, conversation and atmosphere. Why anyone would go here when youve got the railway arms in Alton I dont know.

The Evening Star, Brighton

Great pub, even better beer. Friendly and busy. A locals pub that makes everybody feel welcome. AWESOME!

12 Jun 2007 14:34

The Cask and Glass, Victoria

Nice little pub. I sat outside when i went, got a bit cold. The beer was good. Small characterfull pubs like this are hard to come by in a land full of non discript bars etc. If your in Victoria its worth a visit.

7 Mar 2007 13:03

The Queens Head, Hawkedon

Nice Pub. This is how a country pub should be ran. Good food (although it gets more expencive every time i go). The beer is always supurb, good choices and well kept (also real cider and perry). Has extention on side and back for eating. But the main bar is nicest place to sit, its historic and characterfull. It has yearly beer fest wich was good and had interesting music. Over all realy excellent pub. 9/10

2 Mar 2007 16:36

The White Horse, Edwardstone

Great pub! Has 4 6 Ales on at any time, always kept well (always a mild, which is quite rare). Also real cider from down the road in Groton:- Castlings Heath Organic Cider is always superb, but strong at 7.8% ABV.

There are plans for its own micro brewery in building next to the pub which sounds great.

The pub hosts 3 yearly beer festivals.
Winter beer fest early Feb had 20 beers, loads of rare strong beers including Gales Prize Ale in cask.

Dark Ale Days Festival over May Day weekend normally has over 20 Milds, Porters and Stouts.

Summer Beer and Music Beer festival was really good. There were over 40 beers and ciders and loads of live music when I went last year. It was well staffed and had sausages from Jimmys Farm off the TV: which were scummy.

This pub has also recently put up a 9 meter wind turbine in the garden. IMHO its nice looking and any thing to help prevent climate change must be good.

The friendly welcome combined with two holiday cottages, a camp site, its beautiful rural surroundings and good wholesome country food make this a boozer not to be missed, if you can find it that is!

North Street Tavern, Sudbury

Agree with mr/mrs 25th of may. No good beer either. In good position buts is no good. Only keg beer when i went in, tut tut. Can have good music. 3/10

28 Feb 2007 17:14

The Fox Goes Free, Charlton

Outstanding county boozer. Really good food and even better beer. Has some nice rooms to stay in as well. It can be pricy (food and rooms not beer) but worth it. Hope to visit again soon. 9/10

28 Feb 2007 16:59

Dolphin & Anchor, Chichester

Wetherspoons pub slowly getting better. Deuchars IPA was very good last time i was in there. But it is a spoons pub so bit like all the others. 5/10

28 Feb 2007 16:47

The Swan Inn, Ipswich

This is a nice pub. Always one good beer on. If your on the high street and dont want to walk far its a good choice. 6/10

28 Feb 2007 16:41

The Cricketers, Ipswich

Good for cheap drinks, not much else. If your in town and have only 1.50 and want a pint, then its perfect. Can be a bit chavy. Good range of beers but often not kept well. 4/10

28 Feb 2007 16:34

The Black Horse Inn, Ipswich

This is one of those pubs with potential. But at the moment it is not that good. No good beer, too many fruit machines and ruined a bit inside. Lovely building from the out side though. 4/10

28 Feb 2007 16:27

Trents, Chichester

Was ok when it was Hogshead. Now it is not. Its a bit of a dive. No reason to go in durring the week. Weekend nights get busy and loud. better off at the Fountin down the road. 3/10

28 Feb 2007 00:02

The White Horse, Parsons Green

Winter beer fest was an event not to be missed, will be back next year. A nice pub. Bit posh but its ok when beer fests are on. 8/10

27 Feb 2007 23:54

The Cock Inn, Brent Eleigh

Awesome pub. Small, friendly, old, thatched, country boozer. No cooked food, no fruitys, music or machines. New landlord seems to want this wonderful pub to stay as it is. Good! This is how pubs used to be and should be! Great beer- Adnams bitter is best. Local Organic Cider (Castlings Heath) is lovely although strong and wine like. 10/10

27 Feb 2007 23:48

The Fountain, Chichester

Nice to see well kept beer in the center of Chichester. Much nicer than other bars etc in the high street. Last time i went there it was very bussy and had loud but good live music. I liked it.

27 Feb 2007 23:38

The Four Chestnuts, Chichester

Nice pub. Well kept beer and cider. Pool and Bar Billiards are good fun. Good place to chill out any day of the week. Last years beer fest was good and well staffed. Best pub in chi maybe? Good boozer. 8/10

27 Feb 2007 23:32

The Dove, Ipswich

Great Beer. Great atmostphere. Great pub. Always got loads of different beers on hand pump and gravity. Nice open bar, cosy room at back. Went to winter beer fest, it was awesome. Loads of stuff going on. 10/10
