The Flask, Hampstead

Had another go at this place on a Thursday night.Nice place with a mixed clientel and not too crowded.Decent Bombardier and I tried the Steak and Ale pie for 7.50.Good for that price. Female staff very friendly.

The Harrison, St Pancras / Kings Cross

Hidden pub around Kings Cross. Probably wants to be a student pub and is trying to get a live music license.
Lacks atmosphere due to little decoration. Could make an effort.Beer not up to much.

The Penderel's Oak, Holborn

I do not usually like modern pubs but this Weatherspoons is an exception.Spacious with a good, cheap pint of Directors. The toilets are first class.

The Lamb and Flag, Covent Garden

Nice atmoshere in this ancient pub.Great on a sunny evening when the main windows are open. Good pint of Directors. Then I went for a quick pee. My God those toilets. I am not usually fussed and I realise this is an old pub with little room but they could have made an effort. If you have ever seen Trainspotting...

The Roundhouse, Covent Garden

A decent enough pub. Quite a nice Spitfire on.However I had the annoying thing again of asking for a half and getting a pint. I have a Northern accent but it not that strong, honestly. i think it maybe a lack of concentration.

The Plough, Bloomsbury

Popped in one lunchtime. Seemed a decent place and had Abbot on.

The Bell, Cannon Street

My first time here. Not too crowded though it was lunch time. This pub apparently escaped the Great Fire though it does smell of a refurb. However, it was small and pleasant. There are some real ales on and the Aussie barman who served me was very friendly.

Winchester Pub Hotel, Highgate

I am a little biased about this place as I remember staring into it as a seven year old so it gives me childhood nostalgia. It does not seemed to have changed much and I go back a long way!.Still, this is quite a nice drinking pub though one feels that if they made a greater effort, It wouuld not be a bad place.

The Cheshire Cheese, Temple

Popped in again at night this time. I was the only one there so why stay open at night. However the two young Spanish staff were very pleasant.I shall do lunch times next time I am down in London.

The Railway Inn, Mansfield

A great little pub if you like to be off the town centre on a Saturday night. The bar is quite unusual.Mainly locals which is not always a bad thing.

The Angel Inn, Mansfield

O k pub. Nothing special

The Greyhound, Mansfield Woodhouse

Real locals pub.Bar or Lounge to taste.Great selection of real ales. Good standard quizzes, Monday & Wednesday nights 10.00pm.

Ye Olde White Bear, Hampstead

Tried the Thursday night quiz. Should have gone earlier as it was packed. Had to sit in the none smoking room when loads of non smokers were in the smoking side. why?.However the quiz was of a good standard with 50 questions and 4 cash prizes.I missed out by one point!.Friendly black cat, sloppy dog and even on or two of the locals were quite chatty. Decent beer and the staff were efficient dipite the crowd. Can see why this pub is rated

The Holly Bush, Hampstead

Out of the way Hampstead pub.A popular place, I could not get a seat despite there being quite a few rooms.Very nice atmosphere with a mainly young crowd.

19 May 2006 23:14

The Cheshire Cheese, Temple

My favorite London pub.One of the best reasons to explore the backways and alleyways.Good selection of beers,an Irish landlord who is a gentleman and wonderfully pleasant barmaids.I had a lovely Guiness and steak pie for just 5.45.Only one slight complaint, the piped radio music. however the guy who said it was like a country pub in the middle of London got it right.

19 May 2006 23:07

The George, Temple

Famous old pub that does not dissapoint. Quite spacious and a pleasant atmosphere.Pity about the piped music.

19 May 2006 22:58

Ye Olde Cock Tavern, Fleet Street

What a disappointment. Looked great on the outside but the interior was far to modern and wrong.Piped music though quite a classy selection. For some reason I have yet to fathom I decided to eat there and had a bog standard pie. Why didnt I wait to eat at one of the pubs I went to later; all better in price and atmosphere. And another problem I seem to encounter.Although I have a Northern accent it is not too strong. Surely HALF and PINT are different phonetically if one listens.

Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese, Fleet Street

A gem. Takes some finding which is a good thing. This is the real deal , a historic pub where you can feel the history. Its not been overdressed; you can imagine the characters who drank there. Only one complaint, an old pub like this should be floating on Real Ale.On the other hand the decent Sam Smiths was only 1.72 a pint!.In central London!!.

19 May 2006 22:29

The Black Lion, Bayswater

Full of tourists though it would be hypocritical to complain as I was one.Why do we always feel that we are not like other tourists.Watched the champions League final the night I went in and people didnt seem to mind the handful of Spaniards supporting Barcelona.I nearly broke my neck tripping over the door entrance and I was not the only one.Still the Pedigree was fine and I loved the Burgundy ceiling. There's something about that colour...

19 May 2006 22:08

The George, Belsize Park

Apparently this used to be called The Rat and Parrot and has had a refurb. Well it worked. I really liked the decor and the atmosphere.Nice pint of Bombadier. I had a beef sandwich which was a little disapointing. When I casualy remarked that I would liked to have had the mustard seperate, the bar girl offered to replace it.I declined but I was impressed by the curtesy of the mainly female staff. Good place to drop in in the afternoons at least

The Flask, Hampstead

Went there in the afternoon and evening and enjoyed it both times.Seemed to have a mixed clientel. A pleasant place with a decent pint of Youngs.Well worth going to on a Hampstead pub crawl.

19 May 2006 21:40

The Leinster, Notting Hill

Looked like a converted house but I popped in for a quick half as it was on my way back. It took me about 3 minutes to realise that there were no women . Still its nice to know there is at least one advantage of being middle aged and ugly!.

19 May 2006 21:29

The Earl of Lonsdale, Notting Hill

A real locals pub. Loved the Cockney lass who confined hereself to a single adjective. There are different rooms; a bar, a non smoking saloon and a dining area.Nice old fashined pub, pity about the range of beer. One curiosity, the very clean toilets which they like to moniter closely.

19 May 2006 21:16

The Duke Of Wellington, Portobello Road

Went down for the quiz but unfortunatly as they do not have a microphone if they anounced it to the front bar i missed it. Well at least i made a couple of quid on the quiz machine. The Waggledance was nice and so was the atmosphere. Mostly youngsters but seemed quite pleasant. Can see why its so popular.

19 May 2006 21:00

The Angel, Soho

Wandering the Soho area on a mini pub crawl I came upon this not to impressive looking exterior but gave it a go. What a little gem!.The whole place had a wooden old world feeling about it as if some famous figures of the past made it their regular haunt. If it is a refurb its a damned good one. Then there is the price A half of Sam Smiths for just .89p,in central London!!.There was a darts match on in the other room and everybody seemed to be enjoying themselves. The staff gave them what from a distance seemed a very nice supper.A real locals pub.As Swiss Tony might say: A pub is like a woman, sometimes the outside does not portray the inside, alternatively... do the rest yourself.

19 May 2006 20:46

The Spread Eagle, Camden

Went there for the Monday night quiz but nothing happened by nine so I left. Atmosphere seemed fine though it did have the look of a refurb. Staff were polite but the beer and prices did not impress.

19 May 2006 20:21

The Worlds End, Camden

The sort of pub I would have liked if I were younger .A huge place with no good beer and overpriced. Having my ears being assaulted by thrash metal is no longer my bag.Strange to see the various Rock fraternity along side a bar that resembled the Victorian street in York Museum.Still its different.
