The George, London Bridge

Ok, so this place gets a bit of a slating, but you can't overlook the reasonable score. And why?

Well, it has a huge outside seating area, nicely heated, and great for a proper night out. Probably not so good if you want a really tasty pint or want somewhere to while away that special afternoon though. Take what you will

The Market Porter, Borough

Unfortunately, my friend was caught in a bit of a spot when organising a visit to this pub last week...

This is a great place, serves great ale (including a top scrumpy on handpull) and serves good food. Plus, it's right next to Borough market for even more great food. Thoroughly deserves it's rating.

BUT - it's probably not the place to go to before heading to Schooldisco. I'm sure all the old Saturday night regulars caught a great eyeful when our girls rocked up. Nice one Lisa :-)

The Bell and Crown, Chiswick

Not a bad place, food was reasonable (if a little overpriced) as were drinks. 4 options on the real ales, and a cosy little interior. Could maybe do with sharper serving staff...

Castle, Farringdon

Went here for a few ciders before going for a meal. Very enjoyable and a great selection of the appley stuff.

The Churchillian, Portsmouth

One of the best view a pub can have... I can't say I've eaten here but this place has a good beer, or two, or three! (and then a very easy stagger downhill home)

The Registry, Portsmouth

A cheap, studentish place if you're into that sort of thing. Can be good for sport or live DJs and with a yellow card you're quids in.

Pool tables abound, although not brilliant quality and expensive at 1 a game. Nice selection of games machines...

Trouble is, the place does tend to get packed with very young folk (or is it me feeling old?!) who smoke far too much.

The Duke of Connaught, Windsor

REALLY comfortable and homely inside. Came here for lunch in the summer so had to sit outside, nice small beer garden out back but wouldn't mind going back in the cold winter just to sit by the fire or in one of the sofas! Food excellent, well deserving of its rating.

The Red Lion, Reading

Like it when they have the beer taps working - more often than not they are broken though!

Bartenders have been known to be a little rude, but still a welcoming place and a not too expensive beer.

The Hop Leaf, Reading

Nice place, cracking beers on tap include Erdinger Dunkel and Weiss. Shame about the smoke though

Black Boy, Shinfield

Very friendly place, although whoosh is right it can get a bit smokey.

The pub quiz on a Sunday night is a must if you can get out there... make friends with Paddy, he's an awesome knowitall!

Yates's, Reading

Cheesey and packed... get in early and get a quick drink. Admire the attractive sober girls/blokes when they wander in, and then escape before they start falling all over the place!

The Walkabout, Reading

Ok, so there is a lot of cheese, the floors do get a little sticky and there are quite a lot of drunkards. Trouble is, I'm normally one of them and when you're in that state you tend not to notice the bad things!

Cheap prices, lots of sport and cheap food. Always packed for major sporting events with an awesome atomosphere and packed in the evenings for some silly dancing. Make what you will of it, I love the place!

The Three Guineas, Reading

Lovely collection of rugger shirts about the place, landlord is a good laugh and will talk to most people. Good location next to the station.

Sweeney and Todd, Reading

Some of the best pies in the world. Eat them now! (And get a beer whilst you're at it)

12 Sep 2005 23:27

The Slug and Lettuce, Reading

Quite expensive and not willing to barter. Still, outside seating is good and food is reasonable...

12 Sep 2005 23:26

Santa Fe, Reading

Good selection of bottled beers, if a little pricey. Really like sitting outside this place and watching people wander by. Stylish and friendly, it's a top bar!

Revolution, Reading

You like good cocktails (they are really good)? You have loadsa money (it's expensive)? Want to drunkenly stare at members of the opposite sex (meat market!)?

Then Revolution is the place... Still, it's one of the better nights out in Reading I'd say.

O'Neills, Reading

Massive amounts of cheese! This is one for your oldies and students who are very drunk. If you don't fit into those categories I'd seriously reconsider going here...

12 Sep 2005 23:21

The Purple Turtle, Reading

Very studenty and alternative, you certainly won't find your pint of real ale here! However, they do have a good selection of bottled beers and know some cocktails. If you can get past the decor and overly pierced kid lying in the corner you might just love this place.

The Ice Bar, Reading

Odd bouncers wouldn't let me in because I had a polo shirt with a logo on the breast pocket. Strange door policy! Wasn't eager to go anyway

12 Sep 2005 23:14

The Brewery Tap, Reading

There's some sponsorship available if you've got a gift of the chat... otherwise it's a reasonable place and above average for Reading

12 Sep 2005 23:12

Brannigans, Reading

Not very friendly or accomodating place. Won't be going back any time soon

12 Sep 2005 23:11

Barracuda, Reading

Never been here in the evening, though I can't say I'm too keen.

Managed to get the barman to put some rugby on the big screen when every other pub was showing cricket and the South African food was pretty good. Still, there were louts swilling Stella to an amazing degree and it was 11am on a Sunday!

12 Sep 2005 23:09

Bar Risa, Reading

Tends to get very packed and with prices stacking on the high side it's only really useful if you're wandering upstairs to Jongleurs at some point.

12 Sep 2005 23:07

Bar Med, Reading

Ok for dancing and reasonable prices but that's really the best I can say

12 Sep 2005 23:05

Bar 38, Reading

Quite stylish, but the loud and poor music and expensive prices let the place down.
