MacKenzie's Bar, Swindon

Ok, last time I did this the place was great. How wrong am I now!!!!The place is falling to bits. Wish the owner would put his hand in his pocket and fix the joint!!! It's like climbing mount everest to get to the comfy sofas now because the floors have gone and there are hoels in the walls everywhere, not to mention the beer flies.
Did i mention the bar staff used to be the best loking in town....? Where have they gone? They've turned into smelly students with crap hair and no manners. You'll struggle to get a decent pint in there now and the whole exclusive thing... FORGET IT!!!!!

The Springbok Bar, Cardiff

This place somewhat resembles the walkabout as it is a huge, ozzie themed type place with all the colours of the oz flag and random crocs in odd places. The pirces were rather high for such a cheesy establishment so altogher |Iwas not impressed.

Yard Bar and Kitchen, Cardiff

Less than friendly staff, not only arrogant but totally ignorant. The bar was really high so not a place for short arses like me. it suked downstairs in the bar area but having finally calmed down after the rudeness of the staff and getting a seat upstairs it seemed to be quite a nice place and interstingly decorated like an industrial warehouse. pretty cool.

Ha Ha Bar and Canteen, Cardiff

This was quite a nice bar.. beautiful people maybe but the staff resembled more of an angry warthog than a friendly waiter.
It was rediculously busy and took nearly half an hour to get served, let alone find a place to lean for the night.
Lovely setting would be wicked in the heat of the summer sat outside.... if you can get in through the masses.

The Fine Line, Clapham Junction

Not a bad place but the ladies loo's were a trek and a half to get to!!!! The drinks range was fairly normal but they appeared to have some fairly decent wines and alcopops available and the spirits selection was probably more impressive than the beer selection. I was sat outside mostly after a big dinner and sitting on the wall wasn't exactly a lady like classy thing to do so more seating inside and out would really help this place boost it's rating from me.

The Ship Inn, Wandsworth

I visited in the summer and the plce was heaving!!!! the people ther eseemed friendly enough and the food was really something special. Sitting on the terrace over looking the thames may not sound all that but if you're in good company it's a fantastic hang out.

The Belsize, Belsize Park

Friendly staff (big up to Vicki & Fernanda) Love the potato chips/crisps. Pretty pricey but then it's a cosy atmosphere. The clientele generally look like students and middle aged men reading the FT coz there's nothing better to do...
Nice gaff but not my scene.

Mbargo, Swindon

I was really excited to go to the opening night but really let down after going through the doors. I was greeted by the owner of mbargo himself who seemed and honest & friendly gentleman. It was a nice touch.
The place itself is not much different from the previous Bar me - just with a lick of paint. It stil has completly the same layout, still has the same broken toilet doors, but now with a spectacular looking bar. The clientle is still pretty much the same as it was when Bar me was there.... nuff said. Needless to say, I stayed to be polite in the meeting of the important people in the swindon social scene, had my free drink and left rather promptly. A big disappointment I'm afraid.

The Spot, Swindon

Another trendy bar that's popular with the Swindon "glitterati".
The prices are pretty high but the range of drinks is fantastic, although the setting is somewhat clinical it's spacious and doesn't make you feel claustrphobic when it's busy. The upstairs restaurant has a grand piano tucked in the corner that's never been played (What's the point?) and an open air terrace but that's a dissappointment coz it's all fenced in and you can't see anything! A good atmosphere all round with lovely decor and in a great location. Just remember your parking ticket. Traffic wardens are always haning around this popular location in old town.

Walkabout, Swindon

Australian themed bar serving oz drinks and food they serve ostrich and crocodile but sorry - vegemite to be seen!!!
The food service is great, the drinks range fantastic and well priced, live bands are in every week, the venie seems very popular with rockers and cheesers.
It gets packed on a Friday night and you often have to queue to get in. Great if you want a bit of cheesy dance music on a friday night and some ozzie surfer dude to drool over you..... each to their own. You either love it or you hate it.

Broadwalk, Swindon

This has gone down dramatically since it firt opened.
Every week it gets emptier and emptier and more full of little swindon girls in their essex girl shoes and ponchos mouthing off at the poor doormen.

Steam Railway Co, Swindon

I visited this place on a Saturday night.
A bit dark and dingy and the bar staff look like they'll kick then living daylights out of you as soon as you walk into the main area... that's if the doormen haven't scared you off first.
It's full of 16 year olds trying to act all big and cool or old men trying to cop of with any old bit of skirt so not the best place for just having a good time without geeting into a ruck.
The "quiet" bar area on the other hand gives off a bit more of a welcoming atmosphere. Although small and cosy, the barr staff are more friendly and actually greet you with a smile and they seem like human beings in there. .
Prices are fairly reasonable for this part of town and the selection in the main bar is pretty good... they even do vodka jelly sometimes.

MacKenzie's Bar, Swindon

Macks has to be a great place for socialising during the week. It shows all the big football matches, has great big comfy sofas, nice artwork and has a really chilled atmosphere. The DJ's at the weekend play mostly funky house with a bit of kitch old school cheese thrown in depending on how drunk the dj get's. It's great fun in a classier setting with classier people.
The service isn't particularly great and the bar condition looks a bit poor but the greneral ambiance more than makes up for it. Food there is quite nice and fairly good on service but the restaurant upstairs gets busy and they can't cope so fall flat on their face and the whole experience is ruined.

Longs, Swindon

Longs is generally full of everyone who's anyone. Rammed solid on a Saturday night and full of wannabe type people. Attuitude isn't anywhere near as bad what people make out. Just smile and nod, dress to the nines - you should be fine.
It takes ages to get served though, and I've waited up to an hour for food during the day as well which sux. but the general atmosphere in there is chilled and they have some pretty good dj's if you like rnb or funky house.
