The Railway Hotel, Bromley

This pub has recently changed hands and a few detail improvements have been made.

Went there recently and the food etc was good. Everything seemed tidy and clean, including the well-appointed toilets. No chav/thug element in evidence. Judging by previous comments, it was either a lucky night or there must have been quite a few changes made recently. Staff were friendly and on the ball. Spoke to another customer as a stranger and they were cheerful enough. This place must be worth another go now if you have had a bad experience in the past.

I reckon someone saw my previous post, because today the service was exemplary. OK credit where credit is due.

Oh dear. If I am sat there waving a fiver above my head for five minutes I expect to get served. If staff prefer to natter to a certain group of regulars over making a sale there is little hope. A cursory glance over the shoulder is not enough. I thought I was the one who needed glasses. Had no choice but to walk out.

The Compass, Bromley

Often see punters hopping between here and the Ladbrokes bookie just over the road. I also know two people who have had stuff nicked while their back was turned. Known locally as a haven for thieves and swindlers so one to avoid. Having said that, the beer and food is satisfactory but I would only go in if someone else insisted!

I think that I know the strange little woman that Driver mentioned in an earlier post and if it IS the same person, they have split up now! I went in here on the off-chance that it had improved, but no .... Low ceilings and bad atmosphere. Ugh.

The Partridge, Bromley

This place is popular and with good reason. Great range of beers and well-presented food menu with eating area away from the bar. Always plenty of staff on hand and I advise getting there early if you want somewhere to sit. A "character" pub with friendly atmosphere - not usually frequented by louts etc who have plenty of other venues around to choose from.

The Red Lion, Bromley

Nothing but praise here. Superb selection of real ales always on tap and the food is good quality and keenly priced. A real backwater pub without the cliquey feel you might get in other small locals. Uniformed staff is a plus point and the only thing against it is the compact size of the place.

*** UNDER NEW OWNERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT ***
... yet again! The new two lads running the place are nothing like the previous two "lads" we had running it last year and seem to be getting on well with the regulars (me included - it's my closest pub). They seem to care what the punters think and have already produced a survey form for people to fill in with suggestions for the future, which is a nice touch in my view. Need time to find their feet but off to a good start.

New manageress since last comment posted. Very friendly pub whether you are straight or gay - it doesn't matter. Lots of smiles and fun. Never any real trouble here and even the doormen are the tops. They have just started doing food which I have yet to sample. New disco lighting installed which is pretty impressive. Sheltered smoking area at the back with somewhere to sit! Simply the best atmosphere to be had and better then any "straight" pub around. Now my number-one choice.
