The French Horn, Alton

Very nice pub, excellent range of ales allwell kept. Friendly landlors, and extremely nice gardens outside perfect for a sunny day.

The Railway Arms, Alton

Oh dear. We visited the Railway 10 months ago and all was well - excellent beers and all well kept. But our visit this week was extremely disappointing, and things have evidently been allowed to slide. Of the three pints ordered, two (different barrels) were off. The FFF brewery really do need to pull their socks up.

More disconcecting has been the pub's marketing of itself as having the lowest local prices. While this might seem quite nice - 1.90/pint anyone? - it's had a disastrous effect on the clientele. in the same manner as Wetherspoons, it now attracts anyone who wants to get pissed for the least money, and encourages others to over indulge. On our visit, there was an aggressive and violent 'regular' with a dog he clearly mistreated. Think hard before paying a visit. The French Horn up the road is much better.

The Rose and Crown, Ealing

Hmmmmmmmmmm. Been dollied up, and reupholstered - great. But the beer has all been jacked up in price - 3.10 for a pint of ESB anyone? Yes, I kid you not. And the food has also gone up in price, but down in quality - despite the 'gallery kictchen', the frozen to deep fry fish and chips I ordered was really quite disgusting (soggy, greasy, queasy). I think the aim is to make it seem a little like the Ealing Park Tavern gastropub, but it's nowhere near.

The Pillars of Hercules, Soho

From the paintwork, surely this is a TJ Bernard pub? Can it really be any good??

Jackson's Wine Bar, Northfields

Hurrah - Jacksons has reopened for business. No tried it yet. Comfy sofas and chairs now tho, so a softer edge than before.
