The Railway, Kew Gardens

Over a fiver for a pint is not what I would consider cheap!!

11 Oct 2016 08:56

The Railway, Kew Gardens

This website has been dead for ages - nobody here to change the photos!

9 Jan 2015 14:57

The Inn At Kew, Kew

It must be said the regularity that there is nobody at all behind the bar is quite astonishing

14 Oct 2014 12:27

The Triple Crown Inn, Richmond

Great old fashioned boozer. My personal favourite in Richmond. I for one hope that it never gets the gastro treatment!

1 Aug 2014 12:57

The Greyhound, Kew Green

Not a pub any more - moreso a restaurant with a coffee bar attached. Wouldn't advise going in just for a drink unless you want to get asked if you are eating every 5 minutes by a member of staff. Eye-wateringly expensive too.

Another Kew pub bites the dust...

14 Apr 2014 12:45

The Inn At Kew, Kew

Kiddie situation has gone beyond a joke now. Can't get a babysitter? Just bring them down here to annoy the f*ck out of everyone else!

2 Mar 2014 05:12

The Railway, Kew Gardens

What disappeared?

30 Dec 2013 14:20

The Inn At Kew, Kew

The life/atmosphere seems to have been sucked out of this place, what a shame

23 Dec 2013 00:15

The Inn At Kew, Kew

I'm not sure what was going on last night but 30+ primary school kids in a pub does not make for a happy clientele - adults were leaving in their droves...

18 Dec 2013 11:56

The Railway, Kew Gardens

The really astonishing thing is that this place is now far busier since the KGH has reopened, have to admit I was expecting it to be the other way around. Show's you what I know!

17 Dec 2013 14:02

The Railway, Kew Gardens

yes yes Tim very good

17 Dec 2013 14:01

The Railway, Kew Gardens

Cheer up bodger

14 Dec 2013 22:10

The Railway, Kew Gardens

hahaha I think you're talking about a certain individual there rather than a collection of people!

Unfortunately the way this place is now set up often means you end up sharing tables with people you don't know...

12 Dec 2013 12:54

The Railway, Kew Gardens

There is a Starbucks across the road if you have such an issue with people drinking alcohol in pubs bodger

7 Dec 2013 20:56

The Inn At Kew, Kew

Has now reopened after being shut for 6 weeks for a refurb. Thankfully it hasn't changed too drastically and still feels like the same place it was before. Thumbs up from me.

16 Nov 2013 11:07

The Railway, Kew Gardens

And it's far too expensive and the toilets smell.

And the floor is wonky

5 Nov 2013 09:06

The Railway, Kew Gardens

After spending a bit of time in here I think I can give a fair synopsis of the place.

This has to be one of the most poorly designed 'redesigns' I have ever encountered. Considering the size of the place this is a fundamental flaw. The fitted tables in the bar area are far to big and far too spaced out, they are also bolted to the wall/floor so there is no scope for easily changing this. You cannot sit in the conservatory unless you are eating, also they have shortened the bar by at least a third, and there is no outside heating or covers for when it is raining - all of which means more than 40 people in there and you're stuck in a very unpleasant situation, nowhere to sit, stand, put your bag down, even put your drink down, providing you can actually get served in the first place as it is often three men deep at the very short bar. I can only assume whoever designed this place had never actually spent any time there, it's a drinkers pub not a effing restaurant/coffee bar, and the sooner fullers realise that the better. It will be interesting to see what happens when the KGH reopens, lets put it that way.

5 Nov 2013 07:58

The Rose and Crown, Kew

Went in here on Saturday evening, as previously mentioned it is now called The Cricketers.

Very friendly staff

Had a great time, they've really brightened the place up and there is loads of outdoor seating too.

Will no doubt return at some point

15 Oct 2013 10:53

The Inn At Kew, Kew

please re-open the kgh so you can have your yummy mummies and screaming children back ;o)

15 Oct 2013 08:59

The Railway, Kew Gardens

Not really a pub as such any more, kind of a coffee shop/restaurant affair with beer.

And it is chronically expensive at that.

No sports shown here any more either.

15 Oct 2013 08:58

The Railway, Kew Gardens

thats the spirit

16 Sep 2013 13:13

The Railway, Kew Gardens

Judging by the amount of rubble/wood etc mounting up outside it looks as though they are actually making a real go of the refurb this time. Lets see how it all pans out!

29 Aug 2013 15:34

The Railway, Kew Gardens

I'll believe when I see it Riddz!

27 Aug 2013 15:28

The Inn At Kew, Kew

Shut again today for private function...

6 Jul 2013 17:32

The Inn At Kew, Kew

At their child's birthday party. A picture of responsibility.

30 Mar 2013 12:53

The Inn At Kew, Kew

Well there are two answers, either they aren't, or they're thinking they want to get drunk

30 Mar 2013 12:36

The Inn At Kew, Kew

Seems to have a chronic problem with serving customers at the moment. Loads of staff but none that seem to want to serve anyone!

13 Mar 2013 17:38

The Inn At Kew, Kew

It's not just weekends, and there are often kids in there after 6pm!!

28 Feb 2013 15:08

The Inn At Kew, Kew

Ah yes, so we should be limited to just going in the evenings. Great argument...

19 Jul 2012 14:12

The Inn At Kew, Kew

It's an increasing problem...

13 Jul 2012 10:35

The Rose and Crown, Kew

Popped in for lunch a couple of Sunday's ago.

Bland, overpriced, poorly cooked food.

And yet it was still so busy, bizarre.

Avoid.

28 May 2012 14:54

The Hope, Richmond

This pub has now shut down

15 Apr 2012 22:19

The Inn At Kew, Kew

Could also do with a sign saying 'no food served between 3 & 6pm' it would save the staff a lot of time and stop people from asking all the effing time!

10 Mar 2012 16:30

The Inn At Kew, Kew

Has an extremely annoying policy of dimming all of the lights at 5:30pm to such an extent it becomes practically impossible to read, not to mention that you just feel like going to sleep. God knows where they get these ideas!

20 Feb 2012 17:52

The Inn At Kew, Kew

What a joke, they were still there at 8:30pm, the child didn't seem to know what was going on. @kevmac you are completely right - I'm sick of selfish inconsiderate parents inflicting their annoyances on those of us who want to have a quiet pint. I don't blame the kids as they don't know any better, but the parents need to fix up. gits.

haha

26 Nov 2011 23:16

The Inn At Kew, Kew

Agree, Sundays are particularly bad for kids - they should make it so kids can only go in the restaurant area, would make far more sense. Other than the noise/annoyance they bring its dangerous to have kids running around at knee height when hot food/drinks are being served, you're just asking for an accident to happen.

20 Oct 2011 08:35

The Inn At Kew, Kew

Beer festival here this weekend...

15 Sep 2011 12:56

The Prince's Head, Richmond

We need more pubs with that kind of policy for kids!

2 Sep 2011 11:13

The Railway, Kew Gardens

Judging by the music they play in here now I think it may be turning into a gay bar

26 Aug 2011 16:50

The Botanist On The Green, Kew

Currently closed for a few days while they do a refurb - rumour has it when it reopens they will have their own micro-brewery!

23 Aug 2011 14:08

The Railway, Kew Gardens

@ p349: welcome to the party pal!

17 Aug 2011 09:09

The Railway, Kew Gardens

As far as I undersatnd this place is in the process of going under new management, AGAIN!

29 Jul 2011 11:09

The Railway, Kew Gardens

@ crayscray you are completely right, but I guess the powers that be disagree. Very disappointing.

26 Jun 2011 16:01

The Raven, Stamford Brook

hearing good things abut this place, its been a long time since I've been there so looking forward to a revisit this weekend, watch this space...

21 Jun 2011 15:14

The Railway, Kew Gardens

At the risk of getting censored again, just wanted to say that there isn't much point in this page being here if all it's going to show is posts from 2008.

16 Jun 2011 17:30

The Coach and Horses, Kew

Great garden that no-one ever sits in! Good place to go if you want to get away from it all and/or hide!

25 Apr 2011 04:34

The Botanist On The Green, Kew

I like this place. It's either dead or it's heaving.

Nice friendly staff, the guvnor is a top bloke too

25 Apr 2011 04:33

The Blue Anchor, Hammersmith

Has got seriously expensive. 4.30 for a pint of stella?!

6 Apr 2011 14:10

No.1 Kew Road, Richmond

Now appears to be closed, not sure if its re-opening or not. No great loss either way!

22 Mar 2011 10:45

The Coach and Horses, Kew

Been going here a lot more recently - friendly regulars and they have a dart board which i always forget about!

21 Feb 2011 15:11

The Inn At Kew, Kew

Seems to do childrens parties now, oh joy.

19 Feb 2011 16:49

The Inn At Kew, Kew

agreed northrenbloke - this place should have a higher rating than it does I think

27 Jan 2011 10:58

The Coach and Horses, Kew

Has a strange pricing policy - 3.83 for a kronenbourg??!!

16 Jan 2011 13:24

The Inn At Kew, Kew

you can pay upawards 4 for a pint in almost any pub in London nowadays, its just a sign of the times I'm afraid, most pubs have a tap which is more pricey whether it be some fancy cider or peroni or whatever. There are plenty of other drinks that aren't that expensive, but I admit this place is a bit steep compared to the railway, however its also a lot better in my opinion and I'm prepared to pay a little bit extra for the better quality beer and nicer atmosphere!

13 Jan 2011 11:38

The Greyhound, Kew Green

haha to be fair it has got a lot better recently, the meathead rude bloke has gone, the garden is also improved with heated seating areas...

22 Nov 2010 08:42

Connolly's, Chiswick

Ended up in here after my less than successful visit to the other irish pub in the vacinity, o'riordans. This was much better, cheerful staff, no loud music, and they were showing the football. Will certainly go back.

18 Nov 2010 10:42

O'Riordans, Brentford

Seems to have got a bit moody in here of late - the barman was less than helpful, and he was playing VERY loud irish music at three on a saturday afternoon when the pub was very quiet. Finished my pint and wandered into Chiswick. Shame really this place was one of my favourites

18 Nov 2010 10:38

The Inn At Kew, Kew

I meant is it actually a pub organised thing or are they just showing up of their own accord

5 Nov 2010 09:42

The Inn At Kew, Kew

haha seriously? Or are you just saying there are a lot of kids in there again...?

5 Nov 2010 09:15

The Inn At Kew, Kew

It has been a bit too child friendly of late - I think its ok if its during the day or on a Sunday afternoon but they shouldn't be in the pub in the evenings. Its a shame really because I like everything else about this pub!

19 Oct 2010 10:54

The Inn At Kew, Kew

Agreed Millreef... :o(

27 Sep 2010 11:42

The Inn At Kew, Kew

Much busier than it used to be - a lot of locals have taken this place as their new second home over the railway...

22 Sep 2010 09:06

O'Riordans, Brentford

This place is still going strong, great place to have a quiet pint or watch some sports

14 Jul 2010 09:56

The Inn At Kew, Kew

Tuaca is brutal!

5 Jul 2010 10:50

The Inn At Kew, Kew

Has a tendancy to pull in the young parent crowd, which I guess is good if you're one of them but not so much if the thing you're trying to escape from is screaming kids!

2 Apr 2010 13:55

The Inn At Kew, Kew

Yeah, railway regulars are going here more now, makes it a bit more varied!

7 Dec 2009 11:32

The Botanist On The Green, Kew

Spent Halloween evening in here and had a thoroughly enjoyable time. Have also been to a couple of gigs there which were also good. Haven't yet tried the food so cannot comment on it - but the botanist gives Kew something that its been missing for a while, somewhere with a late licence that is also used as a venue.

Good stuff

15 Nov 2009 12:01

O'Riordans, Brentford

Hot wings + beer = :o)

13 Jul 2009 14:28

O'Riordans, Brentford

13 Jul 2009 14:27

The Inn At Kew, Kew

On Sundays they are now doing spit roast hog in the back garden

:o)

22 Jun 2009 15:38

The Puzzle, Hammersmith

Not impressed. You can't play pool unless you have a visa card or a mastercard - even if you have loads of cash they won't let you play - wtf is that all about? The chicken wings I had were rank, just tasted of salt. Beer is ok. Was better as the Puzzle and there are better pubs in the area...

12 Feb 2009 13:16

The Inn At Kew, Kew

Don't know if they have recently got a new cook but the food in here is excellent - have recently had the sirloin steak and the sunday roast and both were superb. Beer is starting to get a bit pricey, but I guess thats the same everywhere in the area...

5 Dec 2008 09:26

O'Riordans, Brentford

Now called O'Riordans (not 100% of the spelling there) Its having som extensive building work done on it at the moment so ony half of the pub is open - last time I went everyone was having to use the ladies!

Great pub, fantastic atmosphere, lovely staff.

they show 3pm Footy games on Saturdays as well, fantastic...

10 Oct 2008 12:38

The Coach and Horses, Kew

One of the few pubs in Kew that has a late licence at weekends

1 Apr 2008 14:32

The Railway, Kew Gardens

seems to currently be undergoing another staff rotation!

18 Mar 2008 13:26

The Inn At Kew, Kew

Someone need to fix the bloody cd player in here - they just leave it on even though it is contantly skipping, very annoying once you notice it!!!

3 Mar 2008 15:38

The Sun Inn, Barnes

Went here for lunch on Sunday - very busy atmosphere, food was perfectly acceptable and not too pricey. But it takes an eternity to get served at the bar, quite unbelievable how slow some of the staff are!

29 Jan 2008 15:04

The Duke, Richmond

Major refurb currently going on in this pub

6 Nov 2007 14:22

The Rose and Crown, Kew

2 hey?

Well thats the majority of the Kew locals accounted for then.

*rolls eyes*

31 Aug 2007 13:33

The Rose and Crown, Kew

Haha not at all, I never go there. I live in the area hence I was little peeved by the swipe at the locals.

22 Aug 2007 12:48

The Railway, Kew Gardens

I uploaded some new photos of this place the other day, will they ever appear???

18 May 2007 08:38

The Railway, Kew Gardens

Well its open again, and I must say it is an improvement. More than just a lick of paint this time, the fitted seating indoors has been removed and the wide space consuming tables replaced with high tables and stools. This solves the problem of having to squeeze past people when its a bit busy. The wooden floors have been stripped and re done as has the bar itself. A large mirror sits on the wall behind the bar which helps to make the place a lot brighter than it was previously. The outside area is vastly improved with large umbrellas and heat lamps, as well as brand new benches. The conservatory looks more a less the same, albeit with a few new bits of furniture. Unfortunately the toilets are still downstairs (I am however told that this is temporary) although they have been retiled and all of the fittings have been replaced generally making the experience far more pleasant! Yet to try the food but it looks like your average pub grub - the prices have all dropped dramatically as well, which I think is a good thing as they reflect what you get a bit more now - speaking to people who have eaten there I have heard good things. Drinks prices seem to have stayed more or less the same - in fact again in some cases, there have been price cuts. They also now serve Erdinger on tap and Staropramen is on the way too. Still has a quiz machine and a fruity for those of us that wish to dabble in such things!

Not too sure about the chandeliers though - or the random wallpaper in parts of the pub (although I am told this is all the rage at the moment??!!)

Gets the thumbs up from me.

14 May 2007 10:53

The Inn At Kew, Kew

Takes absolutely ages to get served if at all busy - they need more staff!

5 May 2007 10:26

The Crown, Richmond

Watched the footy here on Sunday. Perfectly pleasant, I agree about the odd locals though...

2 May 2007 12:51

The Coach and Horses, Kew

3.40 for a pint of stella!!!

29 Apr 2007 22:10

The Railway, Kew Gardens

Well its finally actually shut for the refurb! Will be interesting to see the changes in a couple of weeks time...

24 Apr 2007 13:49

The Railway, Kew Gardens

Closing for two weeks on Monday 23rd April for a refurb (finally!)

18 Apr 2007 09:24

The Railway, Kew Gardens

I remember Steve. Thos roast dinners were legendary. Update on the refurb - looks as though it is now going to be happening late March. There have been some problems with the planning permission etc

1 Feb 2007 11:52

The Railway, Kew Gardens

I agree, there does seem to be a lot of kids in there, especially at the weekend. Is that you squatter? ;o)

10 Jan 2007 13:08

The Railway, Kew Gardens

Free wireless internet access is now available in this pub.

14 Dec 2006 11:42

Refurb postponed till January

5 Nov 2006 04:39

The Railway, Kew Gardens

Update - refurb due in November...

5 Oct 2006 10:13

The Railway, Kew Gardens

I was in there last night too, you're right the music was far too loud. Unfortunately that tends to happen when the manager isn't about. This place is having a complete refurb soon, watch this space...

3 Oct 2006 13:34

The Salutation, Hammersmith

How else are they going to get the beer into the pub? I'd hardly call the high street a residential area either...

20 Sep 2006 12:07

The Inn At Kew, Kew

In addition - this place has free wireless internet as well

18 Sep 2006 11:44

The Salutation, Hammersmith

I went in here the other day and asked for half a pint of guiness and half a pint of stella in a yard glass - they wouldn't do it! grumble grumble

I like this place a lot, probably what I would call my second most regularly visited pub in west London. one thing though, why is it always so hot in there??!!

14 Sep 2006 16:22

The Coach and Horses, Kew

I agree, it like the krypton factor trying to navigate yourself around that place when its busy

14 Sep 2006 16:17

The Slug and Lettuce, Richmond

The White Cross next door is far superior

14 Aug 2006 14:54

The Rose and Crown, Kew

Went here for lunch on saturday. Food was ok, nothing to write home about, but I must also mirror what other people have said about the amount of time it took for the food to arrive. 45 minutes for two steaks and a salad is bordering on unacceptable in my book...

14 Aug 2006 10:53

The Watermans Arms, Richmond

Knowing squatter, I think he is probably referring to the pubs in which you cannot smoke at the bar...

8 Aug 2006 16:01

The Hart, Hammersmith

Was in here last night. Paul Gascgoine was in there!

7 Aug 2006 09:53

The Inn At Kew, Kew

Thats not Kew though is it

26 Jul 2006 14:03

The Railway, Kew Gardens

Haha, marvellous...

You do get chavs down there every now and again, but I would say it is far from 'completely taken over' by them. You get chavs everywhere you go anyway, even at the green *shock horror*

11 Jul 2006 12:05

The Blue Anchor, Hammersmith

Great pub, enjoyed several ice cold Grolsch's down there on Friday evening - and they sell the proper big bottles, not the 330mls :o)

19 Jun 2006 11:55

The Social, Fitzrovia

I didn't even realise there was an upstairs!

7 Jun 2006 17:10

No.1 Kew Road, Richmond

Pretty lame place, but then thats to be expected I guess. A friend of mine had their jacket stolen there too...maybe there is a conspiracy afoot...

5 Jun 2006 13:53

The White Cross, Richmond

And I'm glad the guy below doesn't like it!

5 Jun 2006 13:50

The Inn At Kew, Kew

Posh Middle Agers, public school kids and rugger buggers are hardly a mix however are they?

2 Jun 2006 11:17

The Railway, Kew Gardens

And god forbid being pissed. In a pub. And having an opinion? Oh no, can't have that.

26 May 2006 12:17

The Railway, Kew Gardens

Clearly not very good at reading signs then are you

26 May 2006 12:12

The Railway, Kew Gardens

Although to be fair, its hardly the pubs fault if parents decide to bring their kids!

24 May 2006 12:48

The Railway, Kew Gardens

Thirded - Surely the kids would rather go to the park or something rather than watching mummy and daddy slowly get pissed in the pub all afternoon, its ridiculous

24 May 2006 12:47

Red Lion, Ealing

I went last Friday.

They managed to make mistakes on both occaisions of me going to the bar, which wasn't the best first impression. It was very busy however. Didn't try the food but it looked good from what I saw. Probably one best to visit when its quiet, maybe I will go back another time.

8 May 2006 16:14

The Inn At Kew, Kew

The ones I've had have been ok...

16 Feb 2006 15:52

The Inn At Kew, Kew

The Sunday roasts they do are very good, I haven't really explored the rest of the menu though...

9 Feb 2006 13:33

The Railway, Kew Gardens

Indeed he is...

Squatter you must be in there quite a lot, so am I, I bet we would recognise each other, haha

26 Jan 2006 10:20

The Railway, Kew Gardens

Drunk asleep bloke is no longer there, he was barred! The no kids policy is only for the bar area as far as I'm aware, would not be a bad idea to extend it throught the entire pub though, I agree. I wonder if I count as one of the drunk squabbling locals? Hmm...

11 Jan 2006 14:39

The Rose and Crown, Kew

Personally I far preferred it before they put in the extra low ceilings and the whole 'mock tudor' effect. It just ends up making it feel all rather claustrophobic. Plus they used to have a darts board. I like darts.

5 Jan 2006 14:46

The Railway, Kew Gardens

But if they lost the screen then I wouldn't be able to watch the football in there and that would be lame.

3 Jan 2006 12:13

The Old Fire Station, Hammersmith

Probably the nicest bar in Hammersmith, it occupies (you guessed it) the old fire station. Very spacious, and has kept many of the original fixtures from when it was a fucnctioning fire station. Good selection of beers, not cheap, but not expensive either. The gents have a rather amusing feature in that the urinals are fashioned out of fire buckets! Didn't try the food, but had a look at the menu and it was all reasonably priced. The kitchen smelt fantastic too.

Recommended.

9 Dec 2005 14:11

The Inn At Kew, Kew

Formerly the Kew Gardens Hotel, this pub has now reopened with a new name and is under new management. The change is really quite staggering, the bar area has been expanded to almost twice its size, and a new upstairs section has opened. Where once were pool tables there is now a restaurant area. The toilets have been completely redone too. I have a feeling this place will now attract a completely different crowd to which it did previously, it certainly won't attract the kids that frequented it before. I'm reserving judgement on this pub until I've spent a bit more time there, last night was the opening night and that was very busy...

7 Apr 2005 12:36

The Hart, Hammersmith

Nice enough place, two pool tables, large comfortable sofas, 2 big screens showing sport. The pizza's are good, two for one on tuesdays after 5pm too. The staff seem a little dopey sometimes however, me and a friend went to watch the football there before and ordered some pizza's, after an hour and a half they had still not arrived, despite us going back to the bar twice to ask where they were. We eventually got our money back and went elsewhere. It was very busy, but we also saw poeple who had ordered after us eating their pizzas, , so that was a little disappointing. Went again on Sunday, this time it was quiet, again we ordered two pizza's, however we ended up having to go to the bar and picking them up ourselves as the bar staff seemed completely oblivious to the fact there were two pizzas waiting to be taken to the table (and they do provide table serrvice for food) All in all a pleasant place, just be prepared to wait a while for any food you might order!

7 Feb 2005 15:45

The Duke of York, Richmond

Yes, but surely that isn't an excuse for them to take it out on other customers who are not like that?

18 Jan 2005 15:33

The Railway, Kew Gardens

No one called Dawn working there as far as I am aware, no...

17 Jan 2005 13:40

The Railway, Kew Gardens

Well it always helps if you know them or if you've been drinking there a while like I have, I usually get served pretty quickly, ha ha...

Yeh, the beer isn't the best in there, can quite often be quite flat...

12 Jan 2005 11:02

The Railway, Kew Gardens

Oh come on, its not that bad, the barmaids are lurrrrvley...

11 Jan 2005 11:09

The Rose and Crown, Kew

Someone will nick them?

6 Jan 2005 16:40

The Railway, Kew Gardens

Christ knows what pub you've been drinking in Johnathan, but 'lonely lovers and Humphrey Bogart' are the last things that springs to mind about this place. Unless when you say 'lonely lovers' you mean single blokes drinking themselves to oblivion...(of which I am quite often one, ha ha)

20 Dec 2004 12:09

The Triple Crown Inn, Richmond

Lovely small quiet pub tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the high street. Friendly staff and friendly punters - they all seemed to be locals/regulars. Good place to go for a quiet drink.
