Britwell Ex-Services Men's Club, Britwell

Now localy called the Edwards Arms due to a new steward (Mr Edwards) and staff reorganising. More locals moving on-even though the nearest pub, which was less than 100metres away has closed down ( The LONDONER) Seems to be being run down diliberatly as housing developers building everywhere around this site and its a piece of prime land for a dozen houses or so. All things must pass. 3 other club type places local, The Chicken Ranch (Long furlong road) Britwell parish owned. The Gay Club (just its name-not customers general preferance) at Farnham Royal village hall. And The Farrady Social Club. Farady rd (Near Northern rd) I hope to get this places to get regester for locals information.

The Royal Standard of England, Beaconsfield

As I first visited this pub as mere lad with my Dad-probably about 1963/4 and have been a few times subsequently. I did enjoy several summer evenings in the small garden with some friends-drinking an odd pint of the original owd roger. Not that I honestly cound get though more that 1 or 2 halfs in an evening. Still I do recall that it was an amazing place to have a pint or two of excellent beer. During the 1970s the building was exstendend considerably-most noticably to the right of the main -barrel-entrance. Apart from the small area behind the entrance very little is original. I have never taken the food here but had the misfortune to eat and drink at the coleshill pub which has the same owners .I would certainly take a friend here for a drink for the abience but I think I will pass the menu on.

The Red Lion, Slough

A lovely old pub-which on my last visit (2010 autumn) was marred..Pretentious bottled beers at inflated prices and food of an overpriced, overated standard, Still seemed to be doing ok with the "crowd" who insist on drinking overpriced botted beer so good luck to the landlord. Still, plenty of room in the car park for the Range Rover and Im sure Smithers in accounts can hide this bill in the exspences. (Yes I remember having the odd drink in the garden of this pub, when it was a pub,and the only evening food was a pastie with HP sauce-old fart lol)

The Royal Oak, Farnham Common

Ok for a cheap eat out meal-and usualy 1/2 real ales in not bad condition. Its not realy a pub but quick food outlet realy. Last time I went in there- a coach full of Japaneese tourist were dropped off for an evening meal-presumably as part of a traditional pub night included in the holiday deal. Dont know if they enjoyed the meal but the guys seemed to love the guinness-which is good for the place. I did try to get the odd one to try Spitfire ,(as an English drink) but I think they stuck with what they knew. (Yes I do know Guinness is actualy brewed from a London Porter Ale recipe) Perhaps a good stopping point for lunch prior to an afternoon strolling in the beautiful Burnaham beeches and a couple of pints later in one of the pubs in the forest .

Assembly, Slough

Demolished-Part of town center redevelopment-Bizzare shped bus station replacing the cube shaped concrete bus staion and m s car park. Time will tell. The heart of Slough was torn out by developers in the late 1960/70 when numerous homes/victorian buildings/pubs were demolished to make way for a dual carigeway and the 1st precinct (Queensmere) to make Slough the most "modern" town in europe to quote the developers, In the 1970s-2000 Slough became a ghost town in the evenings-vertualy no residents so many pubs that tried to stay open-failed.This one-seemilgly gay friendly was no different.(which was a failed furnature buisness previously) Recent development in the area has seen many appartments etc being built so hopefully when the new Heart of Slough is complete-it will have a good mix of homes, jobs and buisnesses and the remaining pubs-and perhaps a few new ones-will flourish. Incidentaly just 70 yards from the site of this club-was untill 1970/71 a sixteenth century caoching inn called the Crown. Torn down amisdt local protest-to make-a Green shield stamp outlet and a Golden egg (whimpey type) cafe-whoopy! Look at history and just maybe-sympathetic development, could have made being and living in Slough a pleasant exspieriance. To the future-Cheers!

The Floral Arms, Slough

Delilict site now sold-what for I dont know, Strangly-a section of the forecourt was not in the hoarding area. Or I believe in the sale of the plot. A former landlord in the 1970s whom I was friendly with-John -Told me the history of the name-and I suspect the "vacant" section. Seems good old Queen Victoria, famous for her consitutonals (walks) took one suck route that terminated in Slough High street-at this point. She wanted to be able to get a posy of flowers to take back to the castle (windsor) and a decree/charter was established alowing a flower stall on the forcourt of the public house-overturning local laws on markets etc in town. A stall was there on sats/bank holidays untill about 10 years ago. After the queens wish was granted-the pub became-The Floral Arms-and next......

Britwell Ex-Services Men's Club, Britwell

Have used this place for about 25 years. It used to be a great family club with entertainmentn and reasonbly priced drinks etc. Over the past say 10 years its difficlt to see any improvments or maintainance has taken place. The range of drinks has all but diminished to verious largers and canned drinks from supermarket multi packs-including cans of lager (fosters) presumably popular due to quality of pump version. Havent even replaced internal ceiling tiles from water damage and only have about a third of lights in working order, Has the honour of being the center for Berkshire darts which probably accounts for most income. A regretably sadly neglected place, Best fondly remembered for its past-Shame. Yes I still use it-cant even get a pint of bitter though. Think of The Jockey in Shameless, knock it about a bit , take out the customers-brake the lights-you get the picture
