The Captain Kidd, Wapping

Was in here the other day and was absolutely disgusted at how Sam Smiths have smashed their prices up to poncey Clapham Bar levels, I used to have a walk up to this pub to have a relaxing pint and now, judging by the prices, has turned into some ghastly tourist trap. £4.25 for a pint of pure?? It was acceptable to drink this when it was cheap as the inevitable hangover was offset by the cheap evening, now at that money, this is just overpriced diabetics pee, there is nothing pure about it for that price, a large glass of wine was over £6, this looked like it had come out of an old fashioned lemonade bottle.

Arrrghh, I am so angry because I love Sam Smiths, and actively tried to get mates to go to their pubs as they are usually in great buildings. If these price rises are across the chain I wont be going back. I am genuinely upset. I'm not adverse to paying a bit more for a good pint, but these rises feel like being testicularly cuffed.

8 for the location, 1 for the bare faced cheek of the price of drinks

The Park, West Norwood

I have only been here a few times, but its an absolutely lovely pub, just a short walk up from the fried chicken and hoodie hovel of Norwood Road and Knights Hill. Pleasent barstaff and a lovely garden. Never been in when its had more than 2 other people in there, but imagine it would be a good atmosphere with a good crowd in there. A nice change from some of the airless ponce fests up in Crystal Palace. Moving away soon so will miss this place.

The Bridge House Tavern, Penge

Went there last night, pleasent enough place, have never ventured down to Penge before, as you start getting down the hill the neck tattoo count gets a bit high and its kind of off-putting, I dont like to spend evenings picking glass shards out of my face because I looked at somebody wrongly. Few ales on, no more expensive than the Crystal Palace triangle pubs, most people out the back in the large raised beer garden. Food really overpriced, 13 for a burger with a few chips, served on a chopping board, thats just too much. There should be an international convention on burger charging capping it at a tenner. I'd go back, nice mix of folk there, bit like a Benneton advert, didnt sense the ethnic cleansing going on as per a previous review, but didnt know it before hand. Can confirm a woolly man though.

Victoria Hotel, Eastbourne

Cracking pub, super landlord and lady and staff who made me and my girlfriend feel like regulars on our first visit, went back the next day and couldn't get in the door, was rammed with the rugby on, amazing atmosphere, came back later in the evening. Lovely Harveys beers kept well and full of nice friendly regulars and large food portions and a bulldog!!, This is everything a pub should be. Definitely worth a visit if you are down Eastbourne way.

De Hems, Soho

Awful experience last night, boiling hot, not especially packed but the nubert behind the bar was just flopping about at his own pace, half eyed looking like he was knackered from some crap band practise last night and was taking an age to serve anyone. Every so often looking up at the people waiting, expressionless like Napolean Dynamite.

If this is a Dutch experience, its akin to having a massive whitey on cheap hash and then catching a roaring STD round the back of Centraal Station, its about as Dutch as Arnold Schwarzerneggers character Dutch in Predator.

Been in here a couple of times now, and its really nothing to shout about, its like when places get so self assured they stop caring, as do the punters who flock in based on its reputation and placement.

Wont be going back.

The Castle, Tooting Broadway

Oh dear, went in for a quick pint before a curry and it was like walking into the film 28 days later, but the zombies were just having a sit down and a pint, presumably to recharge their batteries after a busy day of ripping people to bits. The poor bar lady looked absolutely bereft of spirit to be working and I wanted to give her a cuddle, poor lass. I had a pint and was surprised when it was 3.50, somebody else had got an appletize which had come to almost 3. I can stomach a wake like atmosphere in a pub but not when they are charging top end Youngs prices. A sad little place, go here if you have ever wondered what purgatory is like or if you are too full of zest and zeal and want to have some sucked out of you by the air.

The Anchor Tap, Tower Bridge

I love this pub after work, nice setting, cosy, not full of suits, cheap/strange priced beer, 2.22 etc, good pies, nice bar staff, cant fault this one at all (apart from the strange fell down the stairs hangovers you seem to get from drinking too much SamSmiths Pure).

The Antelope, Tooting

This pub is great, we always meet here if we are going out around the area, good ales served in tankards, nice bar staff, good decor, lovely food, even had an invite to an independant film viewing in there, have nothing bad to say about this pub, really tarts tooting up.

Devonshire, Balham

Lovely beer garden round the back with a strange waterfeature that only serves to make you want to pee, used to drink here when it used to get clubby in the back room, has had a massively poncey make over and you can get food with jus instead of gravy and served on beds of stuff with vegetables you probably havent heard of, bit garish, great beer garden, well over priced for standard youngs beers, looks a bit like Lawrence Llewelyn Bowen has got hold of it and now the punters are paying for the thick arty wall paper and hundreds of lightbulds Nice bar staff though, really friendly and worth a visit, rammed on a sunday with media, legal types taking their mum and dads out for Sunday roast. Nice drinkers in there, unlikely to get glassed which is always nice.

The Clarence, Balham

A nice pub, decent beers, shame about the sour faced barmaid who made us feel like we were putting her out by just having the gaul to ask for a drink, it wouldnt hurt to smile a bit.
