The Castle Inn, St Ives

I meant to post this earlier as the long term landlady confirmed to me last year that the pub wasn’t for sale at all & I’m pleased to say is still the best pub in St. Ives. Great choice of changing beers & ciders, some from the barrel, & v. friendly staff. Dog friendly as ever & if they’re good, might well get a biscuit.

Three Tuns, Henley-on-Thames

The pub now has new owners who actually enjoy serving customers! I can’t disagree with the comments about the previous management as service has been less than enthusiastic in the past but had a couple of excellent pints last Saturday & both house red & white got the thumbs up from both wife & mother-in-law. Lunch was very good too, all three dishes were excellent & as all 3 of us cook & are foodies, the bar is set fairly high. Also very dog friendly in the front bar & our boy loved the attention from customers & staff alike. Will certainly return more frequently now.

The Red Lion, Henley-on-Thames

Went in a couple off weeks ago & good as ever. Beer always in good nick & locals very friendly tho' having a dog always seems to help! Like MinsterWinst, only tried here a few years ago for the 1st time as The Dog had shut down & the new couple that welcomed us have been running a pretty tight ship ever since.

Bird in Hand, Reading

Popped in yesterday having heard of the re-opening & pretty impressed. The garden's excellent & v. dog-friendly with several water bowls & other dogs. Only 2 pumps on & instantly down to 1 when I asked for the Ferryman's Gold as they could only pump a pint of froth! Still, the Hoppit, despite being only 3.5%, was fabulous & I usually find weak beers insipid. There was a small bar area but seem to be mainly pushing on the food front. Full marks to the staff as they were very friendly & inviting, just hope there's room to just have a drink in the winter when the garden's no longer an option.

The Lamb and Flag, Blagdon Hill

Anyway, back to a review of the pub..... Had a couple of pints of Bays Gold which was perfectly kept & friends found the cider well up to scratch too. Dog friendly too & as were staff, locals & non locals alike.

The Merry Harriers, Clayhidon

Excellent foody pub. Ale & cider well kept & the food was fantastic. Really pleased friends who've moved close to this place recommended it & took us there. Looking forward to our next visit so we can go to this pub again!

Old Rooms Inn, Weymouth

Wish I could agree with the comments below as I was looking forward to this pub. Ignoring a few stares from the locals one of the barmen followed this friendly line & served a local who'd arrived after me. With only a choice of Courage Best, which you can get anywhere in the South, or 'Harbourmaster', I plumped for the latter & it was just as weak & insipid as a bad pint of Best. My wife's wine was only just passable so it was an easy decision to move to another pub after the 1st round!
