The Rake, London Bridge

in response to ben21, if you'd ever been to The Rake before a few months ago, you may have noticed the fridges were nearly always half empty, the new manager has given this place a second wind and the fridges are almost always full.
The Rake doesn't claim to compete with the market porters ale range, why would it? but if you'd had the real ale on tap you'd know it was every bit as good as the Market Porters and it's about the same price.
People come to The Rake to try new beers be they in bottles or on draught and the majority of people, including myself don't mind paying a bit extra for a good beer at a realistic price, find them on tap elsewhere if you like but I can guarantee you won't find them much cheaper.
Great value for money.

The Rake, London Bridge

Tiny bar, huge and fascinating beer selection. I love this place, if you haven't been before, I can highly recommed a visit, if you're not sure what to choose you can either ask the friendly, knowledgable staff or just pick a beer from the recently added 'randoms row'. 9/10 loses a point because it's just sandwiches & pork pies food-wise.

The Old Ship, Hackney

A very disappointing pub, the staff are very friendly and frankly the only reason I go in there at all. The beer is nice enough if you like youngs or fullers but a bit boring. The food is probably the worst thing about the place, the menu looks like it should be really interesting and yet it seems a little inconsistent, for example, I ordered one of their burgers with supposedly melted blue cheese only to discover that the melted blue cheese wasn't melted at all and the burger was seriously underdone. It's a shame really because most of the other pubs in the area are either complete s@*tholes or too trendy to go into.

The Rose and Crown, Tooting Bec

Was in last night watching arsenal playing really badly(whats new!) Had a great time.
Loved the touch of the barstaff offering free sandwiches. Reasonably priced beer too but not too hot on the real ales unfortunately.

The Smoke Bar And Diner, Tooting

What a piece of crap! have these people not heard of atmosphere..
1. I like to hear what my friends have to say. Turn the sodding music down.
2. The colder I get the less I feel like drinking cold beer. Turn the sodding heating up!
3.I like to get served by people not braindead gimps who enjoy the sound of their own voices. Get some decent sodding staff!
Wouldn't go there again

The Coat and Badge, Putney

Rubbish, characterless pub, overpriced food, cr@p beer and sh1te staff, get to the Temperance across the river, much more value for money!

The Northcote, Clapham Junction

No decent beers, useless bar staff, avoid at all costs.

The Goat, Battersea

Nice place, too crowded for my liking most of the time but have eaten upstairs a few times and the food is great.
Does however take a bit too long to get served and you have to elbow your way through a crowd of arrogant nitwits to get to the bar.
Definate improvement from o'neills, becks on draught aswell, fabulous!

The Hope, Wandsworth Common

I have to agree with womble, this place used to be a supberb place to drink, supberb staff, fab drinks range and decently priced.
The only thing left from those three is the decent prices.
Where have the old staff gone, the current crop suck! Who trains these monkeys?? Just because they can stand up straight doesn't mean they should be working behind a bar!! They're rude, dull and know notghing about what they're selling! It's a pity there's nowhere else to drink in wandsworth common.

The Sun Inn, Barnes

This place has really improved since the idiot South African manager left, the staff could do with smiling more but I had a really good time there this evening, got some great table service from the duty manager who really seemed to be on the ball and looked after our(and others I noticed) party brilliantly.

The Hope, Wandsworth Common

Great food, friendly staff, sundays are a bit of a mess but that's really down to the size of the kitchen

The White Hart, Waterloo

This pub is chilled, relaxed, bar staff are friendly, I think they've done a good job on the refurb.
