'pinting' snigger....

3 Jul 2008 14:05

The Prince Regent, Herne Hill

There was a 5yr old kid in the pub at 2000hrs this Sunday, this is disgraceful. Get children out of the pubs... Also despite what looked like there being 4-5 staff on, if took ages to get served at the bar... come-on, this could be one of the best pubs in miles...

The Water Poet, Shoreditch

This pub looked better than it was. Only Landlord on tap, and that was not so good so ended up on the becks.

It shut pretty early (23hrs) but the staff were turning on the bright lights and turning off the heaters by 2245hrs which was not very welcoming.

I was there for a party, and the party food was delicious, especially the lamb chops.

The Commercial, Herne Hill

This pub was so short staffed on Saturday afternoon i felt like getting behind the bar myself to helop out the poor lass serving.

Subsequently the place was pretty dirty as she did not havethe time to serve food, drinks and clean up around the tables...

I am hoping this is a one off, because it is a lovely pub, and i like the beer...

I wish i liked this pub better, but the amount of children in there on saturday afternoon was a joke...

At one point there was a 3 year old girl sitting up at the bar...

Why don't these parents take their kids to the beautiful park opposite, make a packed lunch, have a pic-nick, I am sure the little ones would prefer it anyway...

Lets keep these adult places adult...

a 3 point plan to make this a better pub...

1) get rid of all the tat
2) get rid of all the antipodeans
3) get some decent bar-staff

easy

The Commercial, Herne Hill

Enjoyed a nice pint of SA out of a dimply glass, aint had one of those for ages. If i round this way it could be my new local.

10 Jul 2007 10:48

The East Dulwich Tavern (EDT), Dulwich

Came here at the weekend, sat outside and drank some delicious organic ale... I will be back.

The Hand In Hand, Wimbledon Common

Great pub, good quality youngs beers and friendly welcoming staff... and the barmaid called jessica is beautiful!

28 May 2007 11:31

Rehab, Colliers Wood

23 Apr 2007 13:16

GJ's, Colliers Wood

how about they try a theme of nice beers in the pumps and interested staff?

it might just work?

12 Apr 2007 13:02

The Reliance, Old Street

Nice looking pub, with a nice looking clientelle (?), but my pint was sour.

I see they have heeded my comments and replaced the girl that reads out the quiz. Well done! The new girls is both easier on the eye and ear-drums.

3 Apr 2007 10:53

The Earl of Spencer, Southfields

Excellent pub in a bit of a void...

Nice beers, one which was replaced when it tasted dead (end of a barrel?)

Good food and decor and dog... will be back.

13 Feb 2007 13:28

The Temperance, Putney Bridge

I never came when it was an o'neils, but I am very impressed with its current incarnation. Great selection of drinks (3 ales, 5-6 lagers, countless bottles, and many wines by the glass). Food looks well thought out...

If only all chain pubs were refurbished to this standard.

Excellent.

13 Feb 2007 13:24

The Blue Junction, Morden

Went on a thursday night, and it was very quite. Was informed by the bar staff that they would be closing at 2230hrs, was this because of the lack of clientel?

Nice looking bar, certainly swishest looking one around these parts, didnt have time to try the wine, but had a canny pint of cobra.

Will be back.

2 Feb 2007 12:19

The Kings Head, Tooting

Was in here just before christmas on a wednesday night... where have all the pretty barmaids gone?

11 Jan 2007 11:53

Project Orange, Battersea

Probably the only cool place to drink in clapham junction.

11 Jan 2007 11:32

Bar Story, Peckham

I love this place, great cocktails, big bottles of Budvar and Newcastle Brown for 3, cool music... just wish there was an easier way of getting home to colliers wood after closing..

11 Jan 2007 11:30

Rehab, Colliers Wood

Still my favourite place for a pint of lager in Colliers Wood. Friendly staff, nice wine, good pictures on the wall...and the pizza aint bad either!

11 Jan 2007 11:27

The Dipton Mill Inn, Hexham

fantastic pub, homemade ales, great garden in the summer... they even let me do work experience in the brewery when i was 16!...

6 Dec 2006 16:47

Trafalgar Freehouse, South Wimbledon

went with my lass over the weekend after a trip to the hell that is known as homebase. I had 2 of the 6 ales on tap, which were delicious. The lady had the organic lager which also got the thumbs up...

proper pub, proper beer, i will be back to try the rest of the brews...

4 Dec 2006 16:35

The Manor Bar & Grill, Tooting

who's idea was it to drastically shorten the wine list, and only offer is in the vulgarly sized 250ml glasses?

what ever happened to giving the customer choice?

4 Dec 2006 16:04

Bradleys, Fitzrovia

quality, whether drinking on the pavement, by the bar or in the cellar, a fine place to be.

10 seconds from the hell of the oxford road, but you could be a million miles away.

you can do a bit of celeb spotting as the big mercs ferry people to and from hakassan, but watch your toes as the pavement aint to wide.

29 Nov 2006 16:28

The Kings Head, Woodstock

nice pub, good juke-box, lovely fire... proper pub.

20 Nov 2006 12:44

Jerusalem Bar, Fitzrovia

not as good as it was about a year back, went last friday and they were out of most draft lagers, and the staff behind the bar were sloooooooooow.

the girls at the cloakroom were lovely, friendly and chatty though and deserve 10 stars!

13 Oct 2006 16:09

The Exhibit, Balham

has it changed hands? went on sunday, not only was it freezing, but the staff were crap as well.

11 Sep 2006 17:57

Hoochimama's Bar Bistro, Tooting

stop running out of booze!...simple, no?

11 Sep 2006 17:47

The Manor Bar & Grill, Tooting

why is it that the staff act like they have never served a round of drinks before?

11 Sep 2006 17:44

The Sultan, South Wimbledon

nice beer, good 'locals' pub... (not that i am a local). Will be back for the beer!

8 Aug 2006 17:46

Rehab, Colliers Wood

not really a pub, but nice to get a pint of amstel for when you want a nice cold larger.

good pizza, but is it more of a mid-week place for the atmosphere?

8 Aug 2006 17:45

Baobab, Colliers Wood

Just awful, went on a friday night, it had the 'dj' playing "i will survive" and the such at volume 11, and we were the only people there. Took my pint outside, drank it quick and left. Such a shame, just needs good managment offer what people want. ie - good beer, good lager, good wine, good music, bit of bar food... easy ain't it.

8 Aug 2006 17:42

Charles Holden, Colliers Wood

Great beer garden, especially with the 'fire-pit'...

i havn't been when the rugby is on though, as i avoid the game like the plague.

15 May 2006 10:41

The Leather Bottle, Earlsfield

Baby hell in the beer garden... what is it about the middle class londoners that think it is acceptable to bring children to pubs and let them run amock...?

Good beer, but the staff were appallingly slow on friday evening.

15 May 2006 10:37

The Firefly, Balham

Good bar, seems quite 'grown up' compared to some of the others in balham, which is a good thing. Probably the most relaxed bar in balham.

26 Apr 2006 16:27

The Exhibit, Balham

I like this bar, i have been coming here for the last 2-3 years. I like a place that does not rest on its laurel so it has to be applauded for its imaginative expansion and it's support to local film makers.
The lagers are always top notch, and the cocktails are good too (if a little small).
The staff are good, so even when it is busy you are served pretty quickly, and the fish tank is top.
I wish they didnt let so many puch chairs and buggies in though.

26 Apr 2006 16:25

The Clarence, Balham

Original looking new bar/pub. Looks like they have made a little more effort than the usuall 'make-overs', and they have a great choice of continental lagers and ales.
I would be happy having a pint here at any time of the day and any day of the week.

26 Apr 2006 16:22

The Balham Kitchen and Bar, Balham

Sometimes great, sometime mearly adaquate. There is no doubt that the barstaff know what they are doing, mixing great drinks and serving good wines, it just seems that it atracts too much of a pretetious crowd.
They should loose the table at the top of the stairs to the 'play-room' as it creats an unnessary bottle neck.

26 Apr 2006 16:17

The Trafalgar Arms, Tooting

Is this the friendliest pub in London? I have only been coming here for the past 2 months and the staff already treat me like i have been coming for ages.
They need to keep an eye on the quality of the IPA and Spitfire, but the big fires and low lighting make up for it.
I dont think they need the big tele on though.

26 Apr 2006 16:14

The Spirit Bar Cafe, Tooting

Excellent and friendly little bar just off the broadway. You can easily spend a night in here and next door (hoochie) and not feel guilty about not going into town.
Nice continental lagers and nice people, and if you dont fancy booze the tea and coffee aint bad either.

26 Apr 2006 16:12

The Smoke Bar And Diner, Tooting

This place used to be great, and the staff still are. It is just a pity that it now seems to be filled to the brim with braying yah's.
Why do they have to talk so loud?
I dream of it being like how it was in 2004.

26 Apr 2006 16:09

The Kings Head, Tooting

Good big pub, nice ales on tap (when they havn't run out). Food is of the better side of pub grub and nicely priced.
80% of the staff are now great (as opposed to lst year when 80% of the staff were awful) but 20% still let the place down.
It is a good pub if you can not be arsed to do anything else (I mean that in a good way)

26 Apr 2006 16:07

Hoochimama's Bar Bistro, Tooting

Great little bar, seems to be run for love not money. Reminds me a bit of bars you get in Paris.
Great range of continental lagers on tap and in bottles, luck of the draw who makes your cocktails though.
One problem is the ventilation; there is none, so the only way to draw the smoke out of the pub is to have the door open, so it is either too smokey or too cold!

26 Apr 2006 16:03

The Manor Bar & Grill, Tooting

Just had a refit (now called the Garden)and looks good. I'm sure locals will lament disgarding of the pool table and the hike in prices but the bar manager is nice and seems to have some good ideas up his sleave.
Watch this space.

26 Apr 2006 15:59

The Black Bull, Corbridge

Used to be great (mid-late '90's). Not so good now. Some staff good, some staff awful.

26 Apr 2006 15:55

The Schooner Hotel and Restaurant, Alnmouth

Such a shame, this could be a great pub. Unfortunalty it is scruffy (no in a good way) and the staff are terrible andI urge you not to eat there.

I give it a 4, and that is for the excellent beergarden.

26 Apr 2006 15:54

The Sun Inn, Alnmouth

Quality pub, great landlord, makes you feel welcome even when not a regular.
