The Fishermans Cottage, Reading
A friend recommended the place to me so we went and had a nice pint of ESB. In the main I enjoyed my visit. I thought the pub had nice decor and I liked how it was situated right on the river. The only downside was I felt like I was in a showroom of a conservatory company.

It's a good pub to go to and especially with their 2 for 5 meal deals. The waiting times for grub can be a bit lengthy and the bar staff aren't exactly chatty but all in all it's okay. There is often a laddish element present so bear that in mind. Could do far worse than starting out here before going somewhere else or for just having a beer and a cheap lunch.

A good pub with friendly staff and customers. I got chatting to a really nice chap there who was a Catholic - we had a good religious discussion and all before 6pm in the evening. Can't grumble with that at all. The beer tasted good and was reasonably priced. It has a bit of the 'spit and sawdust' type of feel to it ie no obvious frills with regards decor but that's no bad thing. Yes, a very good pub all in all.

The Granby was opened in 1997. It's the premier gay club in the Thames Valley. Every weekend lesbians and gay men from far afield flock to Reading for a great night out - why not come and join them.

This is a pub for estate agents and snobs, very snooty clientele and rather aloof staff however the beer is good and the food excellent so I guess it all evens out. Lovely decor. A very classy place all in all.

I love the inside of this pub, full of trinkets and bottles and all sorts hanging from the walls and ceiling HOWEVER the landlady is very rude. On the three occasions I have been there (the last time being 2 years back) my visit has been spoiled by comments (once of a homophobic nature) made by her to me and the friends I've been with. I hope they now have a new person managing the place because I won't be back until they do. There's a cosy little room at the back which leads on to a quaint pub garden. It's a shame she feels the need to behave like this because she spoils what is a really nice public house.

The Flowing Spring, Playhatch
The last time I went was back in the late 90's and the old geezer behind the bar (Brian?) was a great bloke. Very friendly and the beer was fantastic. I used to pop in there several times a week and enjoy a pint of Fuller's London cream ale. I haven't seen the stuff recently so I can only assume that they've finished that line. Shame. The Flowing Spring then was a great pub.
